I’m so pleased I was able to read about the Mellar sisters and I think there’d be a lot that you’d take away from it too – it is an amazing story that deserves to read. This book is an extremely well written book by this amazing author which had me hook line and sinker!

It is that love that helped them overcome the range of emotions – guilt, anxiety, fear – that Auschwitz caused. During the book there are so many butterfly affects which goes to show how one small action can have such a large ripple affect which could continue for years. They were forced to perform strenuous and senseless hard labor each and every day no matter how hot or cold it was outside. This third book definitely has a more hopeful and uplifting tone than the previous two, which I also appreciated. The day I met Lale Sokolov changed my life, as our friendship grew and he embarked on a journey of self scrutiny, entrusting the inner most details of his life during the Holocaust.As with Morris’ other two books, the story is true and was created with the help of many interviews. Most of us have heard about stories of the holocaust and the horrific cruelty dealt to the people imprisoned at camps like Auschwitz - Birkenau, this story takes place before, during and after the holocaust. The story is made up of real events from their lives and then afterwards, when they are still reviled by many in their home country. Stories of survival in WWII and the Holocaust are heartbreaking and inspiring and Three Sisters is no different.

Though Magda is spared due to being away while the Nazis make their rounds, she is captured a few years later and also sent to Auschwitz. When one begins to falter, the others are there to protect her, to nurse her back to health, or to remind her of their promise.Once Cibi, Magda and Livia are together again, they draw hope from the promise they made to their father and vow to each other that they will survive. Cibi and Livi were extremely fortunate to find themselves with two different kapos who were sympathetic to them and got them easier jobs in the camp.
