About this deal

Aura Sync is simply an on/off toggle that coordinates the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQ’s lighting with other ROG components. Continuing our review of Asus monitors of the week, today we have another model from the ROG STRIX series, this time featuring gaming and picture quality capabilities, as well as a few salty pricing. Another strength of the ASUS XG27AQM IPS monitor is the 178° wide viewing angles, which ensure that the image is flawless regardless of the angle you’re looking at the screen; the colors remain consistent across the entire screen at all times, which in addition to the precise Delta ≤ 2 factory-calibration makes the monitor fit for professional color-critical work. The ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQM is yet another 27″ 1440p 240Hz gaming monitor aimed at those after the perfect mixture of high resolution and high refresh rate. This function is co-developed with input from pro gamers, allowing them to practice and improve their gaming skills.

Image quality is assured by an extended gamut that covers over 91% of DCI-P3 as confirmed by our tests. If you populate your windowed case with enough LED hardware, you might even make your gaming rig visible from space. The first is that this will be a gaming-focused display, with maybe a low resolution and higher refresh rate, or that it will be a hybrid monitor with excellent image quality, high resolution, and gaming features. As an Asus ROG product, the XG27AQ includes all the standard GamePlus features like aiming points, timers, frame counter and alignment marks. ASUS FastIPS technology enables a 1ms response time (GTG) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates.

ELMB-Sync can be used at the same time as variable refresh rate or at a fixed refresh rate (120Hz, 144Hz, 165Hz, 240Hz or 270Hz). The ASUS XG27UQ changes that entirely, bringing almost the best possible specs on a 4K screen down to a reachable tier for general PC gamers. What is the selling point, however, is the rapid 240Hz refresh rate – which you can further increase by overclocking up to 270Hz. This is why 27-inch, 1440p resolution screens are so popular right now, and many are among the best gaming monitors. In general, we preferred this model’s design to that of its ultrawide counterpart; whereas this one exudes a gaming vibe, the ultrawide model can be classified as a casual-looking display owing to its overall aesthetics. When ELMB-Sync is enabled, you cannot adjust the overdrive settings and it’s locked to Level 4 (unless you want to tinker with the service menu again). The monitor is based on an IPS panel with a wide 97% DCI-P3 and 100% Adobe RGB gamut coverage; that’s equivalent to ~150% sRGB! Adaptive-sync™ technology delivers the smoothest, fastest and most breathtaking gaming visuals by eliminating screen tearing and choppy frame rates, and minimizing display stutter and input lag.

Next, the ASUS XG27AQM input lag is imperceptible at around 2ms, so you won’t be able to notice or feel any delays. The Fast IPS panel, which is generally used in high-end displays, allows for a fast refresh rate while maintaining all of the color accuracy that IPS can give.Dynamic Dimming seems to benefit more luminous content while doing less to enhance images with subdued lighting. There are various variations, such as the games you wish to play, but it can all be boiled down to the above-mentioned issue. Although it doesn’t have quite as wide color gamut, it offers significantly better value for the money.

Moving to the stand, the similarities continue, with both possessing V-shaped aesthetics with a wide variety of adjustability, including height, pivot, tilt, and swivel. The Asus ROG Strix XG27 AQ should not be confused with the XG27 U Q which is the 4K version of this monitor (and one of the best 4K gaming monitors, according to our testing). ASUS GameVisual Technology has seven pre-set display modes to optimize visuals for different types of content. The ASUS ROG STRI STR G27AQ is a high-performance monitor with lightning-fast response times and very low input lag. Adaptive sync can be toggled on or off, but you’ll want to leave it on because it works in tandem with ELMB Sync if you wish. The most important part is that you can change the overdrive when using a variable refresh rate, so you’ll always be able to get the optimal performance.
