About this deal

I found that I prefered Rick to Alex as a character; he was young with his life ahead of him, sensible with his money and had an air of caution about all that he did. When he spots her bruises, Rick is determined to save Marina from her brute of a husband, and he cooks up a plan to which she eventually agrees. It’s been a couple of years since Candlish released a book, and she’s used that time well to craft a deliciously dark puzzle with several loose stiches you’ll pull at, only to remain baffled, until the final twist at the end. If you want a suspenseful summer read that carries its own unique formula then this is a book that will linger in your thoughts for some time after. It was certainly hard to put down – and it is cleverly written to keep the reader guessing almost till the end!

The Only Suspect by Louise Candlish - Fantastic Fiction

Rolling out in two separate timelines, the mid-nineties and today, we get transported straight into the lives of two men, Alex and Rick, whose lives will spectacularly intersect later in the book. I did also but I think ultimately I didn’t really care as much as I would have liked about some of the players, from the past and present, so was ultimately unaffected by events that played out. Once again, Candlish gives the reader a tightly-plotted tale with plenty of red herrings and distractions that keep the reader guessing right up to the final, fantastic twist and reveal. If so, then the latest psychological fiction novel with a complex but clever storyline is sure to be an exciting read for you!

The Only Suspect by Louise Candlish Your Preview Verdict: The Only Suspect by Louise Candlish

and for me personally the story itself just wasn’t interesting or twisty enough to warrant such a long drawn out book.Author Louise Candlish, who has written 16 novels, has been described by one reviewer as the queen of the sucker-punch twist and I failed to come up with a better description.
