About this deal

Over the course of three years I studied writing for all mediums, and by the time I left university I decided it was something I’d like to pursue. I have long been fascinated with the idea of magical creatures in nature, particularly those that dwell amongst the trees. I was given a long list of subjects, ranging from business studies to Japanese, and somewhere amongst this long list I saw ‘Creative Writing’. There's a few strands of storyline that weave together beautifully to give us our ending - and it was simply a joy to read.

Penny took to disliking Hamish from the offset, so when she teased him about wanting to be a farm hand, Hamish dares her, his friend Jack and himself to go into the Woods Beyond the Railway.I think everyone should give this book a try, it was a really lovely read and I'm super glad I was given the chance to read it by Crescent Swan Publishing - thank you so much for sending me this copy!

We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. That said, always be cautious when downloading files from the internet, especially from sites external to Anna’s Archive. I’m not sure what I would classify it as but historical fantasy seems to be close enough so let’s go with that! The story truly transports the reader to the era during which it takes place and the magical elements will offer a respite from everyday life, as they offered the characters a respite from war. This is truly one of those books you could read as a child and love and read as an adult and love just as much. The Briarmen is the perfect new novel out there if you are in the market for an engrossing story with a seamless blend of fantasy, mystery and adventure.

I really think this book would have benefitted from a harsher editor - the writing is very clunky and sentences are meandering. I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance copy of The Briarmenfrom Crescent Swan Publishingin exchange for an honest review. The story, set in wartime Britain, centres around the friendship that blossoms between Hamish, a wartime evacuee, and Penny, who he goes to live with in the sleepy village of Brombury. Thank you to the publisher for the gifted advanced copy of this book to review in exchange for an honest opinion.

There's not one bit of critical energy in me post-reading this novel, because this ARC of The Briarmen was such a joy to read. Looking ahead, Crescent Swan has recently announced two new authors they are looking forward to working with this year.
