About this deal

This luxury set from Fortnum and Mason could be the perfect gift for Scotch Whisky lovers - with single malts from three of the most famous Scotch Whisky regions. This tasting set is a great introduction to Japanese whisky for beginners with five 30ml single malts and blends - each with tasting notes - from famous Japanese distilleries such as Suntory and Nikka. You can almost taste the Scottish influence in this dram, but Nikka's Yoichi has a distinctly Japanese flavour profile.

However, to generalise, Japanese whisky tends toward precision and complexity without getting too heavy. Flagship brands like the Nikka's From The Barrel can be seen in supermarkets, alongside scotch, bourbon and the never-ending panoply of gins. Whilst there are not currently equivalent budget options, there are very decent whiskies that don’t cost the earth. This is another banger from the pros at Drinks by the Dram, but this time it shares with us the world of Irish Whiskey - forget Guinness for one day, as this is the true taste of Ireland. A blended whisky from Suntory, this pulls in malt whisky from their Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, and grain whisky from Chita.

Flavour profiles will include hints of bitterness, too, that are striking when first tasted, but sit neatly within the blenders’ intent. On the other hand, the range of Japanese whisky that you can find in the UK is broader and more easily accessible.

Southwold-based distillery Adnams is well-known for its fresh and tasty beers, and now it has something else to boast about. It's not just Scotland that boasts the best whisky, but Japan has thrown its whisky-saturated hat into the ring, too - now producing some of the most highly-acclaimed whisky in the world. Look no further than this exquisite whisky tasting set from Cotswolds Distillery - complete with three 50ml sample bottles to try and test your way through unique whisky styles and flavours. But that doesn't mean you should give up on it altogether, we've tested some of the best whisky tasting sets around so that you can embark on your own honey-coloured taste test.On the nose there's gentle peat smoke and caramelised citrus fruits, and the palate carries the peat and fruit through, with melon and fresh apple being the most notable flavours. Despite only arriving on the whisky playing field comparatively recently, Japan has some of the very greatest malts in the world. The Glenfiddich Tasting Collection features five exquisite drams from the legendary Scottish distillery - each 30ml dram is wax-sealed for that extra special touch, making it a great gift idea for the whisky-intrigue in your life who keeps stealing your stashes.

Look away if you don't want spoilers, but the tasting set boasts drams from Speyside, Macduff, Abelour and many more Scotch whisky aficionados.Although a full bottle of your most treasured spirit is must, often the best way to explore new tastes and regions is to experiment. As such, there are a lot of blended whiskies using Scottish base spirit that may or may not have been aged in Japan, and it is apparently possible to see aged shōchū being sold as whisky in the USA. Well, That Boutique-y Whisky Company does exactly what it says on the tin - well, box of whisky, in this case. My surprise present from my son was superb--the presentaion box is absolutely delightful, and my 1st sample tasted of Yamazaki 12yr old was really impressive. We tried it, and it was so simple - combine 50ml of bourbon with 10ml of the cocktail syrup - give it a twirl and add ice (we tend to use whisky rocks, instead) and garnish with a twist of orange peel.
