About this deal

I was an ARC reviewer for the book Fierce King by author Sadie Kincaid. My review is based on my own opinions.

I swallowed as they drew nearer. What if she hated me? What if she was one of those mothers who never thought anyone was good enough for her son? Why the hell did I even care? This book starts with an arranged marriage where in 2 people both assume they know the other party but of course have no clue. Alejandro is so sure he knows everything he needs to know about his new bride that its fun to watch as he is taken by surprise over and over again as she reveals who she really is. His assumptions are not all correct and he soon realizes that maybe he can love someone. Alauna has only 1 impression of her new husband and its not good. However through a series of trials and slow revelations she learns that he is actually exactly what she has always wanted. For our part, Alejandro and I had played the adoring couple, and I took the opportunity to flirt outrageously with him every chance I got.” As they spend time together will they get past the hot AF crazy sexual tension and the amazing chemistry they have? “He pushed his tongue inside, making sure that I could taste myself on him. For some reason, that only made me want to even more.” Starts with an arranged marriage taking place. I kind of feel like I stepped into the middle of this book 😬… but it’s not some big mystery, which makes it easy to follow. Nutshell: She hates him but is hot for him / he hates her but is hot for her .. meets forced proximity of arranged marriage.

Help

Despite Alana being my wife in name alone, for some inexplicable reason, I couldn’t bring myself to cheat on her on our wedding night. All of Ms. Kincaid’s stories fill the romance story requirements very well with an abundance of HEA or HFN. This is sold as hate to love. Problem: There’s no actual hate. There’s no reason to dislike each other. Neither know a thing about the other. While they both internal dialogue how much they dislike the other, there’s 1) no reasoning 2) their actions don’t match. They’re civil, respectful, even kind to each other all while internally reminding how much they dislike each other’s sexy asses or shouldn’t (FFS why?) actually give realness to the marriage. The next Ruthless series is set in Los Angeles amongst the barrios and mafia crime families. The Fierce King reveals the seamier, barbaric, menacing side of the City of Angels.

This forced arranged marriage should leave her devoid of any feelings of love or lust towards Alejandro. She’s confused when he sets her skin on fire with just his touch. She shouldn’t be feeling this way. She should hate him. Her body is thinking otherwise. It’s Alana Carmichael’s wedding day, what should be happiest day of her life. This is no fairytale wedding. It’s her worst nightmare. She’s marrying The King of LA, the head of the Montoya crime family.I’d left Alana my credit card that morning, and while I’d told her that I didn’t care how much of my money she spent, I did want to know exactly what I might be walking into later.

Living in the UK with her sons, husband and cute but grumpy dog, she writes stories of heroines with determination and steamy alpha males willing to torch the world for the women they love. They talk dirty and act even dirtier. The Ryan Rule series has a Reverse Harem (RH) theme. Typically the RH story has a group of guys and only one girl who all have platonic relationships to start and during the story one guy will emerge as the love interest and the story will progress romantically. These stories are “Happily Ever After (HEA). In this era, HEA no longer means marriage and babies, but rather now it means a happy ending or it can be Happy For Now (HFN). He growls and shouts unnecessarily which leads me to question if our author actually imagined what the scenes she creates look like? Because half the time, how our characters are depicted to say a line, does not match the feeling of the scene or the pre developed emotions thrumming the scene along. You growl when you’re frustrated, as a sexual thing, annoyed- something. Nothing that makes sense and has already been established leads to this man growling. It just comes off as weird and as if you just heard that growling men are a thing in erotic novels so you make your male protagonist growl for any nonsense that happens or doesn’t happen or make sense. Like he’s a damn werewolf or something. HOT DAMN!! Sadie Kincaid totally channelled her “Inner Sex Goddess” when she was writing this book! Alejandro Montoya is so damn hot, even the Devil won’t let him in the gates!! You know you have read a great book when it is all that you think about..... even hours after reading it.

A few hours later, the three of us were sitting on the patio. We’d eaten a beautiful lunch and Maria had regaled me with dozens of stories of Alejandro as a child. He had rolled his eyes throughout and admonished her for the more embarrassing ones, but she had simply laughed and told him not to be so grumpy. How frugal of this Manhattan city girl! The ketchup gets me…lol, as if you don’t have a whole cook. But alas… Alejandro Montoya is the King of the LA underworld. Alana Carmichael has just become his wife. It was good for business, he needed an heir and she was trying to keep her father out of prison. I saw a completely different side to him when she was around, and it was a side of him I could learn to like. This book loves to tells us what’s happening but refuses to show us! No descriptive language, no painting of a scene, therefore, you’ll never get embedded into the book. It’s like listening to a boring person talk about something that happened to them. “Yeah, I hear ya, it sounds like it would be a great time, I’ll just have to take your word for it I guess.” Is my response to everything Alana or Alejandro “feels”.
