The thing which makes Carb Killa bars so special (according to Grenade) is the volume of low-impact carbs. In terms of flavour, the white chocolate is more of a hint, but this is strawberry ice cream, so what did we expect? It’s a good bar, don’t get me wrong. I’m just not sure about the pairing of gingerbread with chocolate. I would never opt for chocolate gingerbread over regular gingerbread, but also can’t help thinking that white chocolate might have worked better here. In the battle of the peanut wars, Peanut Nutter…. did not beat its White Choc Salted Nut rival. It was however a very popular bar indeed, with a wonderfully flat and smooth appearance, hiding crunchy peanuts beneath the top layer. The vibe : Each Grenade Protein Shake contains less than 211 calories per 330ml bottle. HOW MUCH PROTEIN IN A PROTEIN SHAKE?This flavour is chocolate on chocolate on chocolate – a fudge-y centre topped with a gooey layer of chocolate, topped again with chocolate chips and then encased in Grenade’s signature milk chocolate (aka a chocolate-lover’s dream). As usual, the chocolate is good quality and melts as soon as you take a bite. Plus the chocolate chips are a nice addition, making for a more interesting texture and intensifying the creamy cocoa flavour. It is important to understand that these bars are NOT SUITABLE for vegetarians. This is because they contain hydrolysed beef gelatin. Carb Killa bars are also NOT GLUTEN FREE. Grenade’s Christmas 2018 offering, Gingerbread is perhaps an unusual flavour for a chocolate protein bar.

The chocolate flavour was a familiar and comforting one, hard to put our finger on what that familiarity was. If you have a sweet tooth this bar is for you. It’s as sweet as the bars with white chocolate coatings, which is unusual for a dark chocolate bar.Unfortunately, as all of our consumable products are perishable, these items cannot be returned to us unless faulty. On a more controversial note, Grenade bars are still fairly high in calories. Of course, they can fit neatly into a persons diet, but just because they are high in protein, and low in carbs does not mean they are low in calories… By now you’re going to know about Grenade’s classic triple-layer bars, so I’ll leave that bit out. But I will say that the centre on this bar seems softer than usual, more similar to that of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough I’ve reviewed before. Grenade have always done things a little differently, and their branding is no exception, which is perhaps why they are now the most well-known brand on the market. The smell of Christmas” was the cry as the wrapper was opened. The familiar scent of After Eights grabbed us all and held us in its grasp, the anticipation was excruciating. The vibe : The best part by far is the vanilla creme layer. It’s amazingly close to the real thing and the vanilla sweetness perfectly complements the richness of the cocoa base. The peanut flavour is perfectly savoury, similar to the White Chocolate Peanut bar, and provides a delightful contrast to the sweet strawberry layer. The taste and texture of grenade bars is always consistent and yummy. Plus they do have a good protein:calorie ratio.
