Play/pause: While listening to music, tap the touch area of any earbud once to play and pause the music. Apple’s AirPods. But where Apple’s expensive earphonesare elegantly crafted single pieces of shiny plastic, the True Go are something of a hodge-podge. Most of the stems are smooth plastic bearing the Defunc name, but the upper portion and speaker chambers are the aforementioned matt-plastic. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s the speaker covers that spoil the aesthetic. Ok, let’s start with that name. Maybe something has been lost in translation, as Defunc might sound groovy in Sweden, but elsewhere it’s easy to mistake for defunct, which is something you don’t want to brand your device. Take the earbuds out of the charging case or press the touch control area on both earbuds for about 3 seconds until you hear the starting sound. Either course of action turns the earbuds on.

Fit? Only if i turn the “handle” 90%, the bottom faces the same way as my eyes!! It’s hard to recommend the Defunc True Go. The flaky controls are frustrating, and the sudden high-volume experiences are genuinely unpleasant. Alsothe design is unlikely to fit well with a broad range of ear shapes. Constantly falling out and I can’t do a gym session without 1 falling out numerous times. The ear tip pouts towards the ear canals to focus more sound waves, which achieves better open bass response, but to retain the bass intensity, the ear tips need to be as close to the ear canals. Treble is airy while not too thin, providing good audio details. Sound staging is quite wide and deep. Overall, the earbuds do not sound too harsh. I enjoy listening piano music on them, which actually offers good balance of warmth, clarity and depth. Being open-fit, the sound is more open and not tight.Pairing is successful when you hear “earbuds paired” or see that only one earbud flashes in red/blue. Volume can be deafening, so if you like your music loud then the True Go will deliver. Sadly, the built-in messages for connecting, low battery, or signing off when the battery runs out can be disproportionately loud when compared to the audio you’re listening to. The first thing the app does is to search for speakers that’s already been set up. As this is the first time you’re setting up, no speaker will be found. Therefore, tap “Add speaker” to start. Bluetooth is used by the app to find your speaker, so make sure your device’s Bluetooth is switched on. Being an open-fit earbuds, there is no seal to keep the ambient noise out nor the bass intensity impactful. Such is the characteristic of such earbuds, and personally I am not a fan. Open-fit earbuds are difficult to enjoy at noisy places, and turning the volume up does not help much without an in-canal seal. The benefit is that they can be left on your ears even when no music is played.
