Birds, for instance, will make a mess wherever they land—your chair, desk, or even your tech. Printers, though, are another matter. You can't plug a printer into the system directly. To use a printer, it either needs to offer networked support for Google Cloud Print or be connected to a non-Chrome OS computer configured to support this Google protocol. After seeing the last generation of low-powered and fanless Intel processors — particularly the Bay Trail N28XX series — really flop in Chromebooks with bad performance, I'm happy to see Acer go with the Intel Celeron 3205U in the C740. Sure it means there's a small fan system and vent in the hinge area, but it also means I can have absolutely zero worry about performance on this laptop. So why mess with a good formula, Acer thought — and in the Acer C740 we have a true successor to that wonderful C720. A Chromebook that's nearly identical externally to that best-selling model for the last year and a half, with some internal spec bumps and a few small design improvements. The Acer C720 wasn't just a best-selling device, it was also one of our favorites here at Android Central— and now we're going to see if the C740 can carry to the torch. The Acer C720's 720p webcam shoots colorful images with some slight noise. When snapping some self-portraits in our office's fluorescent lighting, we noticed that the pink coloring in our dress looked accurate and bright, but our face was fuzzy.

When compared alongside the Chromebook 11, however, the C720P's music sounded shallow and compressed, whereas the Chromebook 11 blared tunes that were equalized more accurately. This was especially noticeable when we listened to Lady Gaga's ballad "Dope," since her drawling vocals sounded much more vibrant coming from the Chromebook 11 than from the C720P. Some apps that you'll find in the Chrome Web Store, however, aren't compatible with the OS. When we searched for "Plants vs. Zombies" and "Need for Speed," we were greeted with an error message that said "installation not enabled," meaning they're not Web apps that work with Chrome OS. The Acer Chromebook C720 held its own when it came to benchmark tests as well. It took the system 348.4 milliseconds to complete the Sunspider Javascript test, beating the HP Chromebook 11 (679 milliseconds) and Samsung Chromebook Series 3 (737.2 milliseconds) yet again.

It took the Acer C720P only 8 seconds to boot Chrome OS, which is faster than the Chromebook 11, which took 11 seconds. The Chromebook 11 uses a 1.7-GHz Samsung Exynos 5250 with 2GB of RAM and features a 16GB hard drive. The nontouch Acer C720, which runs a 1.4-GHz Intel Celeron 2955U with 4GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD, also booted Chrome OS in 8 seconds. Any D&D fan will know that although Baldur’s Gate 3 has a ton of spells, it includes only the features and spells from the Player’s Handbook, which is the baseline needed for the tabletop game; a large number of spells from other D&D 5e rulebooks, such as Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, were never implemented in Baldur’s Gate 3, which is understandable given how some of the spells are tough to balance. This mod by DiZ91891 brings in a ton of fan-favorite spells from the first level up to the fifth level. Spells for levels six to nine were causing the game to crash and have recently been disabled by the author until they can be fixed. The spells in this mod have not been balanced, however, and are added with the “rules as written” guideline, meaning they might not fit well for video game standards. Nevertheless, the number of new spells you get with this mod makes it all worthwhile, and a nice touch is that the author is highly active and posts regular updates on Nexus Mods. With its minimalist design and beautiful color themes, Monkeytype is simple to use. It’s not only a typing test to measure how many words you can type per minute and how your accuracy is improving. It has a range of modes that give you flexibility regarding the things you would like to practice on. It feels like it was only yesterday, but it has been nearly three years since the original Ghostrunner, a co-development from One More Level and Slipgate Ironworks was released. One More Level are still at the helm for the sequel, with Milan, Italy based 505 Games handling the publishing of the game. Based in Kraków, Poland, One More Level “strive to forge [their] passion for gaming into increasingly high quality games.” Ghostrunner was widely praised, receiving Best Polish Games of 2020 award from Digital Dragons, as well as IGN nomination Action Game of the Year. If you already have an Acer C720 — and considering how many sold there's a decent chance — then you shouldn't be chomping at the bit to get an Acer C740 in your hands. The hardware is nearly identical, and you'll only see a modest performance increase — the only real gain from moving to the new model is one or two extra hours of battery life.Don't count on snapping too many selfies with this Chromebook. The C720P's 1280 x 720p webcam took dark, noisy photos during our testing. Not only did images look pixelated, but our face looked shadowy and dim. At least the camera app comes with plenty of filters that can make pictures look a little better. The C720 can pump out audio as loud as 87 decibels, which is slightly higher than the original C720 average of 85 decibels (which is also the ultraportable category average), but still lower than the 94-dB power of the Dell Chromebook 11 and the Toshiba CB35-A3120 Chromebook.
