I love a good garland! I currently have no mantel in my home but I can always find use for a pretty garland. Today, I am going to show you how to make an easy Valentine’s garland.

If you are making your way over to my cottage from my friend, Cindy from County Road 407, a big Michigan welcome to you! Didn’t she share a pretty updated vintage look for her centerpiece?! Such a delightful idea! Remember, if you think some of the pieces are too long they can always be shortened. Step 2 – Making the Hearts My sweet friend Carol made this pom-pom Valentine garland and I knew you would want to see it. Isn't this adorable! You can change the colors of the yarn and felt to pinks, gold, or white to make this garland any color scheme. It would even be cute in rainbow colors. Crochet Stitch Dictionary: 200 Essential Stitches with Step-by-Step Photos is the most helpful resource to keep handy! This year I was introduced to the world of air dry clay and needless to say I am hooked. Look how charming this Valentine's garland turned out. It has farmhouse, cottage, vintage, modern and minimalist written all over it.Now, tie your velvet-covered hearts onto your wood bead garland and hang it on your mantle, bookshelf, windowpane, open shelf, or… your window bench! Go figure! Chain 45, in top of heart sc, chain 6, sc in top of the other side of the heart, chain 12, sc in top of heart, chain 6, sc in top of other side of the heart, chain 12. Repeat until all hearts are joined, chain 45 fasten off. I wanted something else besides my handmade hearts and ribbon to adhere to the twine. On the recommendation of my good friend, I went to the dollar store and grabbed some small grapevine hearts. They were the perfect addition. I used twine for the base of my garland. Make sure to measure where you are going to use it and add about 8-12″ to each end. That way you’ll have a tassel that hangs of each side.

I’m not going to give you a detailed step-by-step tutorial myself because the video already does that. I can tell you that making pom-poms is a great project to do while watching TV. Place your heart in the middle of the fabric with one corner at the top of the heart. (I cut off the loop that was at the top of my hearts)

Next, I sewed the hearts with the correct side facing each other. Sewing almost all the way around, I then pulled the fabric right side out and then stuffed with my cottan batting. You can sew the opening by hand, however, I just ran my sewing machine across the opening, to close it off. Step 3 – Braid the Twine & Attach Hearts
