At 530ml, the SHO insulated food flask was one of the bigger ones we tried but you can get an even bigger 800ml version. The lid can be a major functional part of any kind of flask. Just like drinks flask which utilise the lid as a miniature cup/mug, so do food flasks have convertible lids. It might be a pertinent consideration, especially if you’re getting a food flask for camping or hiking trips, to have a flask with a lid that doubles up as a bowl. Some also come with foldable spoons, meaning cutlery becomes one less thing that you have to bring. Materials Imagine putting a soup flask filled to the brim in your bag alongside your phone, notebooks and laptop only to reopen the bag to find the flask has leaked and your other items are ruined. That’s why it’s crucial to find a soup flask that has decent leak proofing and seals tightly. Does The Exterior Get Hot?Of course, one of the main reasons to buy a flask is to keep hot food hot. As such, heat retention is another of the most important factors to consider before buying. This food flask is one of the most affordable around for its size and we especially loved how lightweight it was. It also did a great job of keeping our food warm for the full 9 hours. We don’t think it’s a huge problem but obviously it depends on how long you’d need to keep your food warm. For a camping trip where you might not eat for hours, it’s not ideal but for the office, the keep-warm time should be sufficient. The only downside we could find was that the opening was a bit more tapered compared to some of the other options, which meant cleaning up wasn’t as straightforward.
