About this deal

The Stash’s neat system means that it is perfect for every bike from your freeriders down to your XC riders. The tool even when the going gets rough does not come looses and because of the lovely tight fit does rattle about. I gave it a good pasting at Rogate Bikepark and couldn’t get it to come loose from its housing inside the fork steerer. I’ve really enjoyed testing the Granite Design Stash RT. Despite a couple of quirks, namely how the carrier can get caught if the bits aren’t aligned correctly and the not 100% foolproof installation, it’s proven to be an excellent improvement over its previous design and a tool worthy of a home in any bike’s steerer tube. The Stash RT is an excellent choice if you’re looking to move your tools out of your bag and onto your bike. Similarly, the multi-tool works as well as any other tiny tool. It’s comparable to the OneUp EDC tool in function, although OneUp has it beat in both leverage and length of the bits. The OneUp also has a makeshift 8mm hex, which may be helpful. Sometimes those stubby bits may present issues, such as reaching into recessed rear derailleur mounting bolts, but generally, the tool does what it needs to. The tool bits themselves are surprisingly good quality, and a micrometer proves they’re sized rather ideally and won’t do fastener damage. These two gentlemen could not be any more accommodating if they tried, quality service that is a rare find in today’s crazy world, I can not recommend this company enough!

The tubeless plug tool is encased in an aluminum body and threads onto the tool which pulls double duty as a chain breaker. It has space to store the included 5 repair strips and preload the fork tool with one as well. On its own, the plugger was pleasant and easy to use. Strips loaded into the fork easily, even when doubled up, and plugged punctures well, detaching from the fork to remain in the tire. Aside from being satisfyingly gadgety, a multitool that’s hidden inside your bike is unobtrusive and impossible to forget. But it still has to work properly and not rattle or jam when stowed. Granite Design’s Stash RCX meets all these requirements. The integrated AirTag capsule is the perfect way to keep your AirTag safe and sound, while also keeping it hidden from view on your suspension fork.

Granite’s approach is to run a plug-like cylinder from the top of the steerer, and a plate underneath the fork crown (the tapered fork version uses a larger diameter plate). With the fork star nut removed, a long M6 bolt is tightened with a 5mm hex key to draw it, and your headset preload, together. Two bolt lengths are provided for the tool to fit bikes with “bottom of fork crown to top of stem” lengths between 150 to 240mm. Type of riding - This test was structured with gravel riding and the tires and likely punctures of this style of riding. Many of the pluggers in the market are oriented to mountain biking and size their tools and repair strips accordingly. We struggled with this larger strip size and left off several tools that fell into this category. Additionally, the kit you carry may vary depending on pace, terrain, and remoteness. Some tools are oriented toward fast and light, while others are heavier duty or feature-rich. The Best Tubeless Puncture Repair Tools

The compact yet comprehensive tool kit includes a mini ratchet wrench and 9 tool bits, covering essential sizes such as 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, and 8mm hex bits, as well as a T25 bit and an extended PH1 bit that serves as a leverage tool. All of these tool bits are stored in a tough plastic housing that neatly slips inside the steerer tube.

The Wolf Tooth Encase Chain + Tire Plug Multi-Tool is meant to be a multi-tasker, but it’s a clever one at that. Initially, the kit seemed too large to fit in the curve of a drop bar, however, once the design of the pivoting tool was placed correctly, the installation was consistently a breeze. Similar tool kits on the market are built around a thin and small multi-tool. Stash RT’s ratchet wrench is longer thus gives more leverage. The two-way ratchet function makes accessing bolts in tight spaces much easier. What happened? Goopiest feeling of the plugs and therefore hardest to thread into the tines. Includes two valve cores as well.

The tolerance of the multi-tool inside the tool carrier was exact, and the o-ring created a tight seal that eliminated any rattling, water contamination, or the chance of the tool ejecting mid-ride. However, pulling out the multi-tool required some finger strength to decompress the o-ring. On a few occasions, we yanked so hard on the top cap that when it released, we tossed the tool down the trail. While we always want peace of mind that our on-bike tools are secure, the Stash Tool was more challenging to remove than the SWAT tool we used prior with its spring-loaded system. Below is our round-up of plug tools, our favorites as well as the ones that we tested but missed the mark. What happened? Awkward to try and plug can’t preload - Could not get stip to stay in tire liked the idea of abrasive/reamer along tool, but might be best on larger tires only. Next, you will need to make sure the headset is tight. Loosen the stem bolts, and then tighten the housing bolt which will tighten the headset, then tighten the stem bolts. To do this, use a 6mm Allen key in the base and a long 5mm key in the top, you can tighten the headset up. Remember to make sure the bars are straight before doing this. The last thing is to tighten the stem bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.Unlike some other steerer-stored multi-tools (OneUp’s EDC being the obvious example), the Stash RT doesn’t require you to take thread-tapper to your fork’s steerer.
