About this deal

Parc: I’ve been selling it for eight years, but I have been working on this since 2004. I love it. This company completely changed my life, and I have been able to connect with such an incredible community and travel a bit differently than the way I was traveling for my jobs beforehand. I then connected with a magazine guy from France – just through all of our passion about Japanese whisky – and he put me in touch with a distiller. I went over to Cognac and met my now distiller and he was making a single malt whisky using all local ingredients, all made organically. He had no organization to his barrels, but he was not using any bourbon barrels. He was only using French oak. By the time Parc came along, the distiller had been making whisky for four years. By the time Brenne began bottling, Parc and the distiller were working with six- to eight-year-old whiskies. Brenne currently has two expressions: Brenne Estate Cask and Brenne Ten that come from those first barrels. Caramelized apple tart: The fruity and slightly floral notes of Brenne's single malts pair beautifully with the sweetness and tartness of a caramelized apple tart. The combination of flavors creates a delightful contrast and balance, making it a perfect dessert pairing. As a result of cask finishing, Brenne's whiskeys inherit not just the smoky vanilla and caramel notes from the virgin oak, but also the fruity aromas from the ex-Cognac barrels. This two-stage maturation process results in the production of a smooth and elegant whiskey with an unconventional flavor profile that represents its French origins. Review of Brenne Whiskeys

Fruit-forward and elegant, Brenne’s proud femininity is a direct reflection of Patel’s style of entrepreneurship. AP: Thank you all so much. To our readers, please note that this is a distilled-down excerpt of some incredibly powerful points worth exploring further on the journey our industry is on around the categorization of women in whisky. I believe today that the idea is for all of us to break out of our categories. If we can look around our board rooms, Zoom screens, and happy hours and see a wide range of true, meaningful diversity included, that isn’t just good for the bottom line as studies show: that’s good for the human soul. As you explore the flavors and possibilities of Brenne's single malt whiskeys, remember to savor and appreciate the characteristics of this exceptional spirit. Experiment with different serving styles and food pairings to discover your own favorite combinations and truly enjoy the experience. Explore the Avec Grâce et Saveur of Brenne

I know some people really enjoy this whisky, the always amazing Coopered Tot for example, but Brenne isn’t my cup of whisky. I don’t find balance, I don’t find dimension and most importantly of all I don’t find any malt in this whisky. To me the whole thing just comes across as fruit salad and bubblegum with some vanilla frosting and that’s not what I want to drink. Allison is obviously doing well and has found her niche, but it’s 100% obvious at this point that I’m not, and will likely never be, part of that niche.

AP: Tracie, I love that conversation you brought up about how “women and whisky stops progress.” Can you share a little more in the framework of “tomorrow”? I want to continue making great French single malt whisky and bringing it to as many people as we can,” she said. “There is an incredible amount of work over many years that goes into creating just one bottle of Brenne, so when I have an opportunity to share a bottle of whisky with people, I always show up with gratitude, openness, and excitement to look each other in the eye and cheers to those special moments in life.”

Brenne Cuvée Spéciale (40%, OB, 2018)

Parc: Oh, it was pretty simple, actually. I just opened up a bottle and said, “Here, smell this.” Or poured a glass and said, “Here, taste this.” Because this intentionally doesn’t taste like any single malt out there, and it’s not just different for the sake of being different, but the taste is so unbelievably smooth and approachable and friendly and unique. It’s like in a blind taste test, I will always be able to find the brand. Brenne's single malt whiskeys age in new French Limousin oak barrels and finish in former Cognac casks, a novel method in the whiskey world. Limousin oak is a type of oak wood from the Limousin region in France. Known for its tight grain and high tannin content, it's commonly used in winemaking and spirits distillation for aging, contributing rich, spicy flavors and a distinct character. Patel has been a lot of things. She’s a ballerina with a 14 year tenure. She’s a marketing guru who boosted the sales of a luxury company thrice-fold during the 2008 recession. But most importantly, she’s a whisky fanatic dedicated to true terroir. When she first decided to take the plunge into starting her own company, she wasn’t expecting to build her own brand. Instead, she wanted to found an import company, showcasing whiskies from countries not traditionally known for whisky production.
