About this deal

I’ve read this book multiple times and, as a Frankenstein obsessive, I’m happy to say that it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Danny Boyle’s stage adaptation as the best interpretation of Shelley’s original novel. However! Let the record show that this is a book that demands some form of self-blitzing (read: weed) to be even bearable, especially if you're a queerdo with complicated lady feelings, because Ito loves a booby and I do, too, but he also loves charring that booby and drawing the emaciated toothy corpse or drowning it and drawing it bloated and tongue-slugged, so. This is his imagination working in remarkable ways. It also best showcases his uncanny ability to draw the human face in the most terrifyingly expressive ways.

Another reason that Junji Ito’s Cat Diary is so unique is that it is one of the most unique uses of Ito’s own imagination and approach to horror art.

Comments

Even the Junji Ito manga that doesn’t fit neatly into the horror genre still has elements of the uncanny and the unsettling in its illustration. If you’ve been interested in the work of Osamu Dazai, Ito’s adaptation is a fine place to begin. It blends the soreness of Dazai’s writing with Ito’s own uncanny and unsettling art masterfully. When Ito’s manga adaptation of No Longer Human was published, it actually received a grander fanfare from fans than did his adaptation of Frankenstein.

As of the most recent chapter (13), Human Algorithm is the best piece of Ghost in the Shell media to come out in recent years. The plot so far is a breath of fresh air while also feeling completely fitting for the franchise. While Junji Ito’s graphic novels and adaptations are worthy of celebration, it’s in his manga short stories where that Ito spark of imagination really catches fire. I never read the original, so can't say for myself who Dasai is in this work, but the story is of Yozo, an artist, rendering his soul on canvas such as other tortured artists like Van Gogh or Munch, though most of the time Oba draws manga. He plays the clown but is profoundly depressed. He is handsome and popular with many women, but he has fears and social anxiety about people. Oba, like Dasai, was sexually assaulted by male and female servants. He had a childhood friend commit suicide that seems to have haunted him all his life. It tells the story of a private girls’ school, lorded over by a principal and his wife, a woman who believes herself the Virgin Mary reincarnate. It’s no secret that Junji Ito’s writing, art, and, design style have all been heavily influenced by the mind and works of H.P. Lovecraft. This curse builds up a mind-shattering state of paranoia and obsession that, eventually, leads to death. It's a good thing he didn't end up a twisted sociopath, though there were instances when he was teetering on the edge of that abyss. He did become dissipated, profligate, and keen to keep bad company - vices that only worsened as time went by. This is a story found in one of Ito’s earlier short story collections, known as the Slug Girl Collection (named after one of the book’s stories).

He inadvertently(?) caused the demise of a few people, whose ghosts haunt him at the most inopportune times. It seemed like death and the love of women came to him easily, like a song that broke the monotonous buzz of despair and dread that continually consumed him. With such a fair face, he can't help being a lady's man. It may have served his women better if they took a more critical peek at his art, if only to see the demons he was harboring within. This is one of the exceedingly few works I've read that deal with a Grade A homme fatal. The other is a writer by the name of Junichi Fujisaku, who wrote may of the original SAC's best episodes, and based on the stand-alone (heh)Ito was born in Gifu prefecture in 1963. His debut horror book — which we’ll discuss below — was Tomie. uniqueness 6.5/10 (Average Zombie plot, Humans bad or something, Level up stuff and somehow semi-cultivation) Junji Ito has created quite the impressive and haunting visual feat with his massive manga adaptation of No Longer Human, Osamu Dazai’s fairly autobiographical novel about the dark impulses that lurk within us. Known for his horror manga-ka artwork,Junji Ito is the perfect artist to helm such a work of darkly introspective intensity, transforming Dazai’s prose of searing anxiety into visceral, surreal and hallucinogenic visual storytelling. At over 600pgs long, this is quite the dense and emotionally arresting work but Ito’s signature art and the seamless storytelling propel the book along as you feel yourself pulled deeper into the unraveling mind of Oba Yozo, the fictional narrator of Dazai’s story who draws much inspiration from the author himself. While Ito has taken a few liberties with the plot, this manga adaptation remains largely faithful to Dazai’s original and explores darkness, guilt and self-degradation in a viscerally chilling new angle through Ito’s incredible artwork.

After reading such Junji Ito manga stories as The Thing That Drifted Ashore and The Enigma of Emigara Fault, the Lovecraft influence can be seen as clear as day. But it’s through his creepy, eerie, unsettling approach to horror that this ordinary story becomes funny. In an uneasy and nervous kind of way. And since my grandmother had shrunk with age, and so had Yoda, any human who lived to 900 would eventually turn green and have elf-like ears.SAC light novels he wrote, probably was one of the best minds in Production IG's stable of writers for the series. He is not on SAC_2045's staff. Instead, he's making this comic, a monthly adventure which wrapped up its first arc a few months ago. Ito followed up on Shiverwith Smashedand, unfortunately, none of the stories in Smashedcan be found here because they simply don’t measure up to the quality of imagination on display in Shiver. So! GITS-SAC_2045 ain't so great. It's okay, but it's too silly to reach the heights that the original Stand Alone Complex did. I blame two things here.
