About this deal

I understand your comment re full size images. This is not a lens review post it is an example of the artistic characteristics of the lens. These pictures clearly show the bokeh. If lens sharpness is to be assessed then a far more scientific process is needed and will be carried out by some technician somewhere. For my landscape work, I use the 16-55 lens the most often. That focal range is simply the most useful for the scenes I normally shoot. It allows me to go wide angle and provides enough zoom to get closer to subjects. Landscape photography is more than wide angle shots though. Telephoto lenses can also be used very effectively to get landscape shots. Especially in the mountains. The Fuji X-Mount Lenses are all extraordinary. What most photographers don't realize is that Fuji has for many decades, just like Canon and Nikon, also made far more advanced optics, like binoculars for the military and for use in space, as well as lenses for motion pictures and television with six-figure price tags at discount. Unlike mud brands like Sigma and Tamron (or even LEICA), Fujinon has loads of experience actually supplying optics that cost more than some people's houses, and puts that same know-how into these lenses. This lens has a fast and near silent autofocus that is thanks to the inner focusing system. Fujifilm reduced the weight of the focus lens and mounted a Twin Linear Motor that makes the high-speed, quiet autofocus possible. This fast and quiet autofocus means that you can take photos unnoticed in quiet locations. What's in the box? I’m usually a 3-lens guy, with an occasionally 4th, and these days, I’m often heading out with the wide angle 14mm, the sweet little 35mm f/2 for the middle range, and the newly 55-200 for the long end. If you’re looking for a versatile telephoto lens with a nice long range that’s easy to carry and that doesn’t have an enormous price tag, then look no further.

Fern in Yosemite Valley, 11:02 AM, 16 May 2014. Fuji X-T1 at Auto ISO 200 and Auto DR 100, 200mm at f/5.6 at 1/400, Athentech Perfectly Clear. bigger or full resolution. Apochromatic lenses have special lens elements (aspheric, extra-low dispersion etc) to minimize the problem, hence they usually cost more. When I first got the X-T1 in February, 2014 and took it to Iceland for a week, the 55-200 went with me. I’ve always loved the photos I shot with it over there, and I remember being very impressed with how well it performed. I shot a bunch of photos of this frozen waterfall below, handheld at speeds between 1/25-1/60 sec., zoomed all the way out to 300mm, and they were all dead sharp. That’s how good Fuji’s OIS is. Please note that vignetting compensation is also a lossy procedure because it increases the corner (sensor-)noise. For the manual focus ring to work, you have to change the setting on your camera. Otherwise the ring is ignored in autofocus. Even in manual focus, the ring is never connected to the lens; it's connected to a computer which in turn moves a motor in the lens to focus. This resistance ensures that the zoom doesn’t extend when you are carrying the camera with the lens pointing down.

I would say, if you’re a landscape photographer who doesn’t need the fastest apertures, have confidence buying the XF55-200. I’ve owned this lens for around a year or so now. But I honestly felt like I got my money’s worth from it within the first month. Without it, I miss so many shots due to range limitations. With it, however, I feel like I can take on the world…One beautiful photo at a time. I have a few awesome telephoto lenses for Nikon including the legendary Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VRII and the fantastic Tamron 100-400. I always have one of these lenses with me when I’m out with my Nikon gear. But that makes my bag really, really heavy and a pain (literally) to hike with.So I needed a telephoto option for Fuji. How to read our charts The blue column represents readings from the centre of the picture frame at the various apertures and the green is from the edges. Averaging them out gives the red weighted column. The lens is certainly sharp enough even being slightly better at the 55mm end than the 18-55mm. The main concern among artists is the bokeh characteristic. The 55-200mm lens is one I will replace with a 135mm IS prime when one becomes available. I’m sure the DXO labs and DPreview technicians will get their hand on the 55-200mm soon. Chromatic aberrations are very well controlled for a telephoto zoom lens with fringing only just exceeding half a pixel width towards the edges of the frame at 200mm and maximum aperture. This low level of fringing should pose few issues as it will be barely visible, even in large prints, or harsh crops from near the edges of the frame. The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS lens has very effective optical stabilisation and excellent performance at 55mm. Reminiscent”– This image was taken during my very first outing with the 55-200. I absolutely love the color rendition and how it captured the beads of water as interesting out of focus bokeh balls. This is the image I think of when I’m out shooting foggy sunrises.
