About this deal

This pattern comes in two sizes. The mini/medium holds two cups and the regular/large holds four. One of our test dogs eats 1/2 cup per meal and uses the regular/large size. That means all pieces fall in the grooves and it takes some time to eat them. The bowl is made from plastic that is BPA, PVC, and phthalate free. It has a non-skid base and can be cleaned on the top shelf of the dishwasher. There are many reasons why dog owners prefer stainless steel to plastic. Not only are they easy to clean, but they are virtually indestructible. Perfect for those unstoppable chewers who have to gnaw on everything in sight. I’m going to be straight up with you. At the time of writing this, ceramic slow feeders aren’t great. Here at DogLab, we do not recommend products that we wouldn’t use ourselves. Because of this, I find myself unable to declare any ceramic slow feeder an outright winner. Also answers to Liv. Enjoys beach vacations and the dog park. She also loves to wiggle and is always happy, even if you can’t tell. This is her happy face! 8. Chelsie

Slow-feed bowls are most commonly used with dry food. With that said, we also wanted to test their performance with wet and raw foods. The Petacc Ceramic Anti-Choke Bowl was the only ceramic feeder suitable for flat-faced dogs. However, it’s more like a plate than a bowl. Without sides to the dish, your dog’s meal goes flying, making a mess. Even though this feeder is on the larger size, the Neater Slow Feeder could be used by dogs of any size. Best of all, its unique egg-crate design slowed down all types of dogs during feeding – even flat-faced dogs! How do the slow-feed dog bowls achieve that? Well, it’s actually quite clever – the bowl features raised sections that prevent your dog from eating his food all at once.

When bloat strikes, your dog’s stomach twists or swells, which in turn can cut off the blood supply to vital organs. In severe cases, bloat is deadly. They can be used to provide enrichment for pets and to mentally stimulate them to work for their food,” says Robinson, and “they can be used for dogs who seem to be always hungry as it forces them to slow down, which will help to send signals to their brain that they are full.” I must stress that these experiences were uncommon. Almost everyone we spoke to had universal praise for slow-feed bowls. Finally, many ceramic slow feeders are not dishwasher-safe. If you want to clean these bowls, you must do it the old-fashioned way – roll up your sleeves and start scrubbing. Choosing a slow eating dog bowl is a wise choice for every dog, as using a dog bowl to slow down eating reduces stomach bloating and gas - making your canine companion much more fun to live with!

Now that we had our pile of slow-feeder dog bowls, it was time to compare them to each other, to determine which was truly the best. Why a quarter? Well, we had a lot of bowls to get through, and we didn’t want to overfeed our dogs. This was my favorite dog bowl of the set I tested. I found it to be the largest, easiest, most aesthetic (I like steel, so I understand if that’s a niche opinion), and is the easiest to manage. Unlike some of the competition, it does not have a top piece to pop on and off (and ultimately wear out) and seems like it will do well in the dishwasher. Additionally, it did not require any consumables or electricity, which is always a plus. With this in mind, we decided that the time taken to eat a meal should be the number-one ranking factor.
