Ah, otoMADs. While it's a huge genre on Nico, it's often known in the West simply as "that part of YouTube." But the only I reason for this, I think, is that non-Japanese internauts rarely get to hear otoMADs based on things they know; for some rare examples, see MowtenDoo's works, e.g. Super Spice Bros 2. Touhou fans, on the other hand, have a good reason to enjoy otoMADs. Since Touhou's explosion in popularity coincided with Nico's early days, Touhou songs are frequently used in otoMADs. I'm sure there are many fans in the West who first discovered Touhou through McRoll. It has also undergone numerous evolutions since, with 24 different varieties including Oekaki Gummi Land, in which kids can mix the three primary colors to make gummy sweets of varying colors and flavors, Tsukameru Fushigi Dama, which involves putting powder into water with another powder's solution to harden the liquid candy, and Pizza Party -- which really does taste like one. Kracie did a very impressive job with this. If there was one criticism, it’s that, much like with their adult grape flavors last year, sweet and sour tastes are already firmly in Nerunerunerune’s wheelhouse. If they try for something like freshly roasted coffee or potato stew next, then they’d really be on some next level stuff.
Konagaya, too, has been to schools with the program, and told me happily, "The children get a chance to do experiments using familiar candy, and you can see their eyes light up when they take part."
