About this deal

The following steps outline the general method for applying grout that needs to be applied to a wet patio: There are a few different types of patio grout, each with their own pros and cons. The most important thing is that the instructions are followed correctly to prevent residue and staining. Pre-Mixed Patio Grout Sponge Machines & Ancillaries We supply a range of indoor & outdoor sponge machines from Refina & Berta which are suitable for cleaning epoxy & cement grouts such as UltraScape Flowpoint from quarry tiles, external paving slabs, natural stone and granite setts. Our range of sponge machines protects the joints between paving slabs by avoiding washing away the cement, whilst the machine removes the need for individuals to wash away grout on their hands and knees. The other big advantage with this compound is that you can simply brush it in without firmly pushing it in according to the instructions. In reality following this has led to having to top up a few days later but the result was all the same, near perfect and looks beautiful against stone.

Geo-FixAll Weather, that solves the perennial problem of applying jointing compound in wet weather. It takes between 6 and 36 hours for the grout to ‘surface set’ and can take up anywhere from 10 – 48 hours to fully cure. This also depends on the weather conditions, and it shouldn’t be applied if the temperature drops below 5℃. Be careful not to damage your stone or slab by removing the old mortar or grout. Once this is out, dig up as much old sand or mud as you can. I use a small screwdriver initially for this. There are some huge benefits to this later on in the guide. Pressure washer the joint out Geo-Fix All Weather is ready mixed and can simply be brushed into joints with minimal effort compared to using traditional mortar. Geo-Fix All Weather is easily finished by compacting with a pointing tool and used on joint widths of min 6mm and a minimum of 25mm deep. It also forms a solid joint that resists weed and plant growth, yet is permeable allowing water to escape to prevent ponding.Geo Fix is supplied ready to use and does not require any further mixing or addition of other materials.

The figures given below are approximate quantities required at 25mm depth per 20kg of Geofix) Joint widthTreat this project in the same way you would using cement. You’ll want decent gloves and make sure that all skin and eyes are protected. This isn’t particularly toxic but be careful and use common sense to keep yourself safe. To the letter of the rule HSE.GOV says that we should use waterproof trousers, masks, gloves, and appropriate footwear such as wellington boots. Dig out the old grout To ensure a perfect joint, press the Geo Fix Paving Joint Compound into the joints with a pointing tool or compact into joints using a vibrating plate. Top up as necessary. There’s no need to go any further. This is a self setting patio grout so the job is now done. The Sika takes about an hour and a half to start to set on the surface and you really need to leave it a whole day before it’s fully hardened, in my experience using this product. This was a warm sunny day so it would probably take considerably longer if it’s cold. Clean and seal your patio after Tarmac & Pothole Repair We offer a range of permanent pothole repair & pothole filler materials such as Ultracrete Permanent Pothole Repair, instant tarmac including Ultracrete Instant Road Repair 6 & 10mm, cold joint sealants, line marker paints and anti-skid patch repair.

The time and labour saving benefits of Geo-Fix Jointing Compound, combined with the performance benefits compared to cement based mortar You’ll probably want one tub if you have a patio around 15m2. I know they say you can get 20m2 but if you have wider and deeper joints then it’ll not go as far. My patio area is about 6 metres by 4 metres and I used two tubs to give you an idea of my experience. The jointing compound wants a 3mm gap (no problem if much larger like 10mm) and in their example they want to highlight an inch depth, despite being a new install, they will still want you to go an inch down on your old patio – this is pretty much the standard and whilst it never guarantees you hold weeds and insects at bay, you give yourself the best possible chance! Ensure that the paving to be jointed is dry and free from loose dirt, oil, debris and grease etc. it is essential the joint widths are a minimum of 5mm wide with a minimum depth of 25mm. deeper joints can be filled with dry sand or other materials to meet the required minimum depth.push the Geo-Fix® compound into the joints at a 45° angle. If using on a wall surface, wear protective For a strong bond between joints that will ensure no failure, you have to cut reasonably deep, at least an inch evenly all the way along the channels to ensure you get a good bond from stone to stone. One thing you should watch for when using this compound is the drying time. I have seen anything up to just under a week for it to be fully cured. So if you’ve laid new stone on sand I would give a little time to settle anyway. It won’t be a problem if it rains though, this product holds up just fine. Any residue left on the surface when cured can be simply cleaned off by sweeping with a stiff brush. Material or residue that has been left exposed for more than 30 minutes should NOT be used, as it will be adversely affected. Have a look online at cleaning patios and you will find some handy advice, but make sure you use the right products on the right materials......no acid on natural stone etc!!

Use either a brush or a squeegee to brush the grout into the gaps between the paving slabs. If the instructions indicate that the paving slabs need to be continuously wetted, you may need an extra pair of hands. In terms of install – as the video neatly breaks down for you (I’ve started the video at the right place to save you time), you really want to wet those stones and saturate them. From there it’s pretty much follow my guide – they recommend a stiff broom to move the sand about – this is pretty obvious given wet sand won’t budge with a soft one. If you have an ant problem this isn’t a bad shout. Most of the ranges reviewed in this article work but Sika Pave Fix Plus Buff make a point of advertising this specific compound as resistant to ants. It’s super annoying watching an army of ants pushing up sand from your patio and well worth dealing with the problem as soon as possible. Everything about never seeing a weed on your patio again is ALL to do with how well you prepare. Following this guide will give you the best possible experience through this project. So let’s get started!
