About this deal

Equipped with a single sensor and lens, the D-Link DCS-8515LH delivers reliable surveillance capabilities. With a minimum illumination requirement of 0 lx, it can capture high-quality footage even in low-light conditions. Additionally, the camera boasts night vision functionality, allowing it to record clear images up to a distance of 5 meters.

The micro SD card is located within the lens module which is exposed by pushing the module upwards to reveal the slot below the lens. This means swapping the micro SD card is only possible when you turn off the camera, not during operations, or when you use the app to manually tilt the camera lens upwards. Be careful with this setting. If you move the camera, the Active Area moves too, which may mean that you’re no longer monitoring parts of the image that are important. For example, you may no longer be covering a doorway. Again, it’s a good reason to have the auto home feature turned on.

Motion and sound detection - Alerts you with a mobile or tablet notification and starts recording. Customise settings, and interact with other mydlink devices. Do it all with the mydlink app It’s simple to set up your camera with the mydlink™ app for your phone or tablet. Once set up, you can view and control your camera from anywhere with internet access. You can set the camera to return to the home position automatically after 60 seconds of no activity, which we recommend doing; without this, you can leave the camera at an odd angle and miss important movement from the camera’s motion detection system. At night, the camera turns on its IR LEDs, which light up a room but soften the image, slightly blurring facial details. This is an issue that affects all IR cameras, however. The photo is used to let you tap the exact spot that you want to move the camera to. It’s a good idea in theory, although the image that appears in the app is exceptionally wide and not very tall, so it can be hard to work out what you’re looking at.

Subscription required for Cloud Recording. From July 1st, 2021, the FREE mydlink Cloud Recording is valid for 1 year from the subscription activation date and is limited to 3 Cameras. For all FREE plan users prior to September 30th 2021, your free subscription will expire on September 29th 2022. Having said that, on the whole the mydlink app UI remains confusing. I am getting the hang of it only because I use it regularly and knows where to navigate to. The whole carousel-like UI probably works better with a navigation pad, but not for touch interaction. Verdict Supports microSD cards up to a maximum capacity of 256 GB. microSD card not included. This photo also doesn’t take in height, even with the camera able to move 105° vertically. If you want to look up you have to touch the live-view image and swipe your finger on the screen. You can also move side to side with this feature, but it requires a lot of swiping. Where you place your camera is important. Placing our DCS-8515LH on a shelf at waist height, we found it couldn’t see the floor with the lens at its lowest position, but it could look all the way up to the ceiling.

While the D-Link DCS-8515LH supports a wired Ethernet connection, it does not include a built-in HDD. This means that footage will need to be stored externally using a compatible device or cloud-based storage. However, the camera's IP capabilities enable convenient remote access and monitoring. Controlled through the clunky but functional MyDLink app, the DCS-8515LH takes a couple of minutes to set up and get connected to your network. Once added to the app, the first thing the DCS-8515LH does is take a panoramic photo of your room, moving the camera through its entire 340° horizontal range. With its sleek design and compact size, the D-Link DCS-8515LH seamlessly blends into any indoor environment. Its sturdy construction ensures durability over time, making it a reliable choice for consistent surveillance needs. The camera does not support an Ethernet LAN connection, ensuring flexibility in installation options.
