About this deal

Kontour is a particularly playable and tweakable Phase Mod–based synth. Two oscillators with shapers can be combined and cross–modulated, and blended with a comb filter and regular filter. The result is kind of a grungy organic synth with a character somewhere between FM and Physical Modelling. The name comes from the synth’s front-panel performance view, which has four modulators, each with built–in motion sequencers. Of course these are mapped to the knobs on the KK keyboard.

The innovative light guide, adds RGB lights above each key to highlight drum cells, key switches, chords, scales and more. These lights are ideal for organising and differentiating between sounds, presets and play settings. The lights will change colour accordingly, showing you which key corresponds to which parameter/playing style. The Smart Play feature allows you to see scales and modes on the Light Guide. This allows you to play chord progression and arpeggios with single keys, or even map scales to white keys only. It also provides full VSTi support, allowing you to use and play your favourite virtual instruments directly from the keyboard itself. If you are using a different Komplete Kontrol keyboard, set the Receive From and Send To to the DAW entry available. In our case, it's Komplete Kontrol DAW - 1: If your keyboard has not connected automatically, or if you are using an older version of Studio One, please follow the steps below. Integration of the keyboard as a MIDI controller Select KOMPLETE KONTROL in any of the drop-down menus in the Type column to add the keyboard. The ports and MIDI channel will populate automatically. The layout of the S49 MK2 has been vastly improved to provide a more ergonomic design that will improve your overall workflow. The intuitive layout provides you with everything you need right at your fingertips. The two high-resolution colour screens allow you to easily navigate and browse through your sounds, projects and more. There are four steps involved to set up Live with your KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series MK1 as explained below: 1. Installing the MIDI Remote Script Operating System: Mac OS X 10.11 or macOS 10.12, Intel Core 2 Duo / Windows 7 or later, Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2 A sonic laboratory for layering drums, combining pristine acoustic samples with a punchy electronic edge. WEST AFRICA If you’re experiencing issues on an Apple Intel-based Mac and GarageBand 10.4.4 or higher, please follow the steps in this article. Setting Up GarageBand for KOMPLETE KONTROL

The first round of Komplete Kontrol keyboards were an all-round hit as Native Instruments delivered a physical interface for its NKS paradigm. The most noticeable feature was the Light Guide. The key illumination feature could have looked poxy, something a beginner might need to find Middle C. However, in use it was a revelation. Breaking up instruments categorically across the keyboard — e.g. a drum machine’s individual sample notes appear in a different colour to loops. It can also light up a scale of your choosing if you forget how to play piano. Depending on which version of Live you use, the setup steps differ. Follow the steps for your version of Live below: The features described here require Apple Logic Pro 10.6 (or higher) as well as Komplete Kontrol 3.0 (or higher). While there are obvious advantages to having all of Komplete in a single plug–in, I can’t help being wary. I got burned when NI walked away from Kore: I have v1 and 2 Kore controllers lying dormant in a drawer, and a large number of unfinished Live projects that I can no longer open because I hosted all my plug–ins in Kore (I know, I should work faster!). In Pro Tools, plug–in hosts can also be a pain for automation, as the names of any automated parameters in the hosted plug–in become generic numbers. So there’s a certain amount of trust involved in committing to a single plug–in that may not be supported in the future. It’s a trend in the industry though, with Waves, Slate, SoundToys and many more developing shell plug–ins for all their products. Light Guide & Smart PlayOn the sampler side, The Definitive Piano Collection is new, plus the Session Horns and Drumlab Kontakt instruments are now included. On top of these Ultimate gains Rise & Hit, Action Strikes, Kinetic Metal, and Cuba. Two new effects plug–ins, the Supercharger tube compressor and Driver distortion filter round out Komplete 10, with Ultimate also getting Molekular.

The eight touch-sensitive encoders directly below the screen, provide you with the means to assign and control parameters as you see fit. It also features a four-directional push encoder for easy sound browsing and navigating through projects. This makes controlling, accessing and selecting sounds and parameters easier than ever before. Seamless Maschine and DAW integration If you’re experiencing issues with Host Integration on an Apple Silicon-based Mac, please follow the steps in this article.

Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2 Overview

The Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2 is the latest addition to the Komplete Kontrol series from Native Instruments. The S49 MK2 retains all the functionality that made the original so sought-after while boasting a range of upgrades and improvements. At the heart of the S49 MKII’s design is the semi-weighted, touch-sensitive Fatar keybed with Aftertouch. Smart Play: Recognise keys and inversions with the Light Guide; play chord progressions and arpeggios using individual keys, or play any scale with white keys alone Go to the Library tab and press the Rescan button. Wait for the Database to be updated; this can take a few minutes. Pre-mapped control of KOMPLETE instruments and hundreds of Native Kontrol Standard (NKS) instruments from leading manufacturers In the Receive From and Send To tabs, select the keyboard that you want to use. In our case, it is the KONTROL S49 MK3.

NI turn their hybrid expertise to keyboard design with an innovative controller for Komplete and Maschine. The firmware of your Native Instruments device can be updated with the Native Instruments Device Updater as explained below: Unique, responsive polyphonic instrument and effect, based on the innovative modal synthesis technology from REAKTOR. REAKTOR 6 PLAYER Monophonic synthesizer capturing every sonic nuance of the king of analog monosynths in spectacular detail – the holy grail of analog modeling. MASSIVEIntuitive control over Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, and GarageBand. Cubase and Nuendo integration coming soon after initial release Depending on which version of Live you use, the setup steps may differ. Follow the steps for your version of Live below: The battle to find a free-flowing compositional experience can shift right under your feet; new software, new gear, new instruments, integrating anything new can break your flow in an instant. It was a relief to discover that rather than lobbing a grenade into my setup, Native Instruments was fighting the battle on my behalf. Having played with the Komplete Kontrol S49 Mk 2 for a few months now, I can say these are the most intuitive, unobtrusive, inspirational MIDI keyboards I’ve ever reviewed. Note: Live's auto-selection may choose the Komplete Kontrol Mk2 instead of the Mk1 automatically. If it does, simply choose the Komplete Kontrol Mk1 from the Control Surface list. Go to the File / Folder tab of Live's Preferences and make sure the Use Audio Units and Use VST Plug-in System Folders options are activated. If these options were not activated, press the Rescan button after having set them to On. If you skip this step, you will not be able to load KOMPLETE KONTROL correctly in Live.
