About this deal

His reflection in the second one is looking the other way, suggesting that Kendall is struggling to choose between Logan and following his own path. I said to the cast, 'I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I think this is it.'" Armstrong added that the story will be "complete" at the end. The creator also revealed some more juice about the final season, including that it opens with another birthday party for Logan. Gathered on a balcony of one of Manhattan’s skyscrapers, the extended Roy clan don’t look happy to be in one another’s company again. This time there is no clear split between the warring camps, suggesting that the Roys might end up working closer together this season.

Logan tells Greg (Nicholas Braun) to keep an eye on Kendall (Jeremy Strong) at Tom’s bachelor party, saying he doesn’t want him dead by way of drowning in some European pool. In Season 2, Kendall even calls himself “techno Gatsby.” The guy with a death drive is always surrounded by water-based imagery, but because Logan doesn’t want his son dead, we learn at the start of the season-three finale — from Logan — that Kendall didn’t, in fact, drown. As Greg would put it, “So it be. So it is.” As anticipation built for Succession’s last ever episode and fan theories proliferated, few predicted that it would be son-in-law Tom Wambsgans who would ultimately ascend to the Waystar Royco throne. Yet maybe, just maybe, the seeds had been sown all along. Here are 12 hidden clues that foreshadowed Tom’s triumph … 1. His surname Cox added that he's "absolutely delighted" his show is ending, saying, "In a good way, I'm happy it's over," though he also said he'd miss the cast and crew. "I'll miss the people I work with," he added. "They're the key."Ahead of the new season, HBO released multiple trailers teasing what to expect from the latest Roy family drama. In the footage, the Roy children are at war with their father Logan following the explosive season three finale. In season four, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv, and Roman (Kieran Culkin) are plotting against Logan's son-in-law, Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen), also Shiv's husband, who in turn consults Cousin Greg ( Nicholas Braun). "This is a chessboard, and every move counts," Tom tells Greg in the footage. Armstrong first revealed that the series would be ending with its fourth season in a Feb. 23 interview with The New Yorker. "You know, there's a promise in the title of 'Succession.' I've never thought this could go on forever," he said. "The end has always been kind of present in my mind. From season two, I've been trying to think: Is it the next one, or the one after that, or is it the one after that?"

In the first poster, Roman is looking directly at Logan. But in the second poster, he and Logan are the only people staring directly down the lens. Is this a sign that they have more in common than they both think? Is Roman going to be… the new Logan? Shiv The fourth and final season premieres on March 26, 2023. New episodes of the 10-episode season follow on subsequent Sundays. At the start of “Too Much Birthday,” the team gives a toast “to justice” after learning the DOJ is off their case and no one is going to jail. Logan squeezes Tom on the arm and whispers, “I’ll remember,” referring to Tom’s act of loyalty. Shiv, appearing to have a brain fart, toasts her dad before even thinking to cheers her own husband for the good news that he won’t be going to jail after all. If Tom had any sense, we would know with whom he’s aligning at this point. And after the “I don’t love you” moment in “ Chiantishire,” how can you blame him? Following the fallout of Kendall’s betrayal and Logan’s gung-ho quest for revenge in Succession season 2, last year’s episodes placed the spotlight on each Roy sibling equally, giving actors Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin room to flex their (at times cringe-inducing) muscles.Season 4 seems primed to continue in that vein, after Logan’s dramatic decision to consider Matsson’s offer left the trio of siblings more united (against their father, that is) than ever. If Roman is the child who wants to be cherished by his dad, Kendall is Logan’s mirror. Ruthless and stubborn to a fault, it’s hinted throughout the series that Kendall’s conflict with his father comes from being too similar.Peter Lely, “Portrait of Louise de Keroualle, Duchess of Portsmouth” (ca. 1671–1674) (via Wikimedia Commons) Even HBO executive Casey Bloys remained in the dark on Succession's future. "For those conversations, we really tend to leave it with the showrunners," he told Deadline in July last year. "Jesse is obviously figuring out what he wants the fourth season to be and he will decide whether he sees it going beyond that or not. We’ll really leave it to him and let him have his process and figure out what he wants to do." The first promotional poster for Succession famously featured an artwork to set the stage for what was to come. Logan Roy and the four contenders for the Waystar RoyCo throne stand in front of Peter Paul Rubens’s “The Tiger Hunt”(1615–17), a dynamic composition in the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes that pits man against beast in an evocatively vicious confrontation. Inspired by an allegedly destroyed Leonardo masterpiece, “The BattleofAnghiari,” Rubens depicted a dense knot of charging hunters and bloodthirsty felines with no clear victor or distinction between predator and prey. The canvas is one of four in a cycle seized by the French from the Old Schleissheim Palace in Germany during theNapoleonic Wars, a 12-year struggle for European domination that was almost as ruthless and contentious as the Roy kids’ battle for control of their father’s media empire. (Bonus: a fan of the show discovered an image of Kendall apparently dressed as Napoleon in a recent Season 3 episode.)

In September, HBO released a series of Succession posters riffing on the family rift: Kendall on one side of a hallway stare down, Logan on the other; behind them, different groupings of other members of the family. One of these variations showed the siblings falling in line behind Kendall with just Tom and Greg trailing Logan. It seemed unlikely at the time, but this is the poster that predicted where things would land by the end of the season: battle lines, action stations. Siblings united in daddy issues, trauma, and greed. But the crux of Succession season 4 will, of course, revolve around Matsson's proposed acquisition of the Roy family business. Indeed, HBO's official synopsis for the season reads as follows: “In the ten-episode season 4, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.” Following the above pattern, Succession's season 4 finale should air on Sunday, May 28 (or Monday, May 29 if you're in the UK). Succession season 4 cast Shiv comes round unexpectedly, but Tom didn’t anticipate her arrival, but still had the ring on, which suggests that behind closed doors he’s still rooting for his marriage to work. There’s a growing sense that Tom’s actions were never taken against Shiv, but for their future together. He made sure he was invaluable to the business, so even if he was pushed away by Shiv, he’d never be without her.For Kendall, Logan’s death is a business issue to swiftly resolve, while Roman grieves and tries to defend his dad’s honour and legacy. Tom’s wedding ring Less clear is whether Adrien Brody, who briefly starred in season 3 as billionaire investor Josh Aaronson, will reprise his role. Aaronson was used as a vessel through which Succession’s showrunners sought to question Logan’s competence as an elderly CEO. Having fulfilled that purpose, it’s hard to see where Brody could take the character next. We're staying tuned to new episodes to find out. Succession season 4 story But what do both posters say about Logan, the figure on which the biggest question of the series — who will inherit the media empire — hangs on? Well it’s safe to say he’s the main character, but I can’t help but be drawn to his watch. Is it simply a power pose, or does his fancy timepiece hold its own significance? Maybe he’s running out of time; Logan’s health has been a question since the very first episode. Maybe it’s a gift, perhaps a peace offering?

Even the cheekiest chappy of all, Roman, hasn’t managed to muster a smile for the poster. His stance is most similar to Kendall’s, though they never appear on the same side of Logan in either picture. When we left them in season 3, the brothers were working together to bring down their father, but there’s a chance we might be able to witness a major falling out between them. If these pictures follow the same story that each side represents warring sides of the Roy family, then Kendall might find himself swapping teams.Tom and Greg are still the only ones matching Logan's fit, however Greg's the only family member looking at his own, pained reflection while the others look out. Could this hint a change of heart? A fear what looks out ahead in a future where he's sold out his blood? Additional returning cast members include David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Justine Lupe, Dagmara Domińczyk, Arian Moayed, Scott Nicholson, Zoë Winters, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Juliana Canfield, and Jeannie Berlin. Alexander Skarsgård, Cherry Jones, Hope Davis, Justin Kirk, and Stephen Root will also reprise their roles for season four.
