About this deal

Today, Ethernet networks are commonplace in both domestic and professional environments. A network is simply several interconnected devices that are capable of sharing data between one another. Home networks, for example, are usually based around a router or modem, connected to various other devices and sharing out data. This might include PCs and laptops, smart TVs, mobile phones, games consoles, media servers, printers, and so on. A domestic setup of this kind is an example of a LAN (Local Area Network). The name comes from the fact that all devices linked to it are close to the others, typically within the same building. https://geni.us/NetworkCableTester– Finally, a Cable tester – this is essential to verify the cable and all 8 connections are correct and working before you go to use it in your network setup.

IEEE 802.3at, 802.3af and 802.3bt– the various power over Ethernet (PoE) standards for RJ45 connectors capable of supplying electrical current to the end device

What is interesting about this plug is that it will also connect right into any standard RJ45 port. However, the way you work with it and the size of cable it accepts could not be more different. This one requires a special crimp/termination tool, and it is meant to be used with shielded Ethernet cable. For more on how to actually terminate one of these beasts see How To: Terminate a Shielded Cat6/Cat6A Standard Load Bar RJ45 Connector With External Ground . RJ45, modular plug, 8P8C, end, connector... these terms are used interchangeably. These all describe the piece attached to the end of an Ethernet cable that plugs into your TV, computer, router, etc. There are several applicable standards for RJ45 connectors, depending on their application and intended use. These applicable standards are briefly summarized here, but several standards will be outlined in greater detail later: If you’re adding cabling to an existing setup, or replacing a faulty end, then make sure you use whatever standard is already in use at the location, to make things easier for yourself and any other engineers who might do work there after you.

What’s interesting is the confusion surrounding this unassuming little part. The very name can generate confusion. If you’re going to be putting strain relief boots on, slide one on now before you proceed to start putting the end on. Would you like to see how one of these plugs is terminated? Take a look at How To: Terminate an Unshielded Pass Through RJ45 Connector .

Fast-forward to the early 1990s and Category 3 cable, which is often called the first modern networking cable, boosted the cable's frequency to 16MHz and Ethernet performance to 10Mbps. By contrast, Category 4 cable pushed this to 20Mhz and roughly 16Mbps but it was used for Token Ring – rather than Ethernet – networks. Figure 2: PoE injectors provide power-to-Ethernet connected devices (Image source: CUI Devices) T568A and T568B standards RJ45 cables are commonly used in Ethernet connections. Yet, they are useful for other applications also. For example:

Cabling used in Ethernet and EtherCAT networks is offered in several different types from Cat5 and Cat6 to now Cat7 and even the new Cat8. Each of the cable standards offer greatly different performance metrics, but all still utilize the same RJ45 connectors. This means that each cable, regardless of the standard, will consist of 8 wires and 4 twisted wire pairs, which matches the RJ45’s 8P8C configuration. Where are you going to be running network cable? Do you use pass through RJ45 connectors or the older style ones? Let me know in the comments and you can also join the channel for some extra perks and technical support from me.In modern domestic and commercial environments, RJ45 connectors are primarily used for plugging an internet-enabled device directly into hardware such as a modem, router, or server. The connectors themselves are the modular sets of fittings at either end of the physical data connection (Ethernet cable) joining one networked device to another. If you intend to make lots of cables, wiring them yourself can also be a considerable cost-saving measure
