About this deal

Learn more here about the organisations Montane is working with to protect our playground, and to help us to make considered, responsible choices. Regular washing with Tech Wash will maintain the DWR for longer and remove salts and oils that can contaminate the fabric, and it will keep your lovely jacket clean and smelling fresh. You have a legal right to reject faulty goods within 30 days of receipt and get a refund, including postage back to us.

Please do not use the `Remember me` option if using a computer with public access or that is used by more than one person. Once confirmation of warranty confirmed, we will replace the item free of charge or offer a full refund. Engineered with waterproof Gore-Tex Paclite Plus technology and a comfortable dry-touch backer, it ensures optimal performance.Nikwax treatments will not change the look or feel of the fabric and they are all water based, environmentally safe, non-flammable and contain no nasty Fluorocarbons. As on the jacket these are YKK Aquaguard zips, with the added insurance of an internal storm flap to gutter away what rain does make it through. At the opposite extreme, committed winter mountaineers would be better off with something more durable and protective, but they'd pay a weight (and financial) cost for it. The adjustable hem with cinchable drawcord performs in the same way, and allows you to create a personalised fit.

By the definition of this standard, an RET of 0-6 is 'extremely breathable' (comfortable worn at a higher activity rate); 6-13 is 'very breathable' (comfy at a moderate activity rate); 13-20 is 'satisfactory' or 'breathable' (uncomfortable at a high activity rate); and anything over 20 is going to boil you in the bag (I paraphrase). In a nod to its potential use in winter it's a roomy jacket, and in my standard size Large there's space to fit it over several warm layers without feeling restricted.I’ve been impressed by the beading of the Gore-tex Pac Plus fabric in wet weather and it’s breathability too. You've just left the warmth of a friendly checkpoint and as you step out into the cold pouring rain, peer into the darkness and contemplate the terrain ahead, you realise you have 40 miles left until the finish line. If you don't need such a beefy feel, and want to save weight, the Pac Plus (not XT) Waterproof Trousers offer a lighter alternative. In July you've run 60 miles of toughest trails in the British Lake District, some of the cruellest terrain underfoot in Europe.

You still get a helmet-compatible hood with three-way adjustment and a stiffened peak, 3 useful external pockets (including two map-sized, mesh-lined hand pockets with YKK Aquaguard zips), adjustable cuffs and hem, and a full-length two-way YKK Aquaguard front zip with internal storm flap. The Pac Plus is definitely on the lighter and more breathable end of the Gore-Tex spectrum, making perfect for fast paced mountain activities. Although this isn’t an ultralightweight shell jacket it’s an incredily low weight item (306g for the XL version I’m wearing) AND it packs down into a pretty small space. The hood, which isn’t helmet-compatible, fits well and gives excellent protection while moving with the head to allow side vision. Admittedly, it’s 25g or so heavier than the original Pac Plus, but we think the tougher fabric and the addition of pit zips are well worth the slight weight increase.Classic Mountain Fit: Designed for mountain walking, mountaineering and more general use, these garments have a versatile, relaxed fit. But budgets don't always stretch that far, and some will prefer a single do-it-all waterproof, one jacket (and perhaps trousers) to cover as many bases as possible.
