About this deal

We have a choice about the people with whom we interact sexually and the extent of that interaction. Beth had a father who wouldn’t let her individuate; he didn’t or couldn’t let her develop separately, with values and an outlook different from his own. The author also liberally sprinkled the text with exclamation marks which after a while began to grate somewhat as I felt that they were unnecessary. even though (in reality) there is a systemic and sometimes toxic reason that's led them to burn out.

National Book Award winner Jacqueline Woodson and two-time Pura Belpré Illustrator Award winner Rafael López have teamed up to create a poignant, yet heartening book about finding courage to connect, even when you feel scared and alone. Of course, it's a completely different context in an organisation, but there are things that cannot be spoken. Petra Velzeboer leads the way and shines a light through the maze of tools and set constructs defined by employers and medical professionals. Both women spend the ensuing decades haunted by the spectre of the Horseman, until they decide to investigate what became of him – an ill-conceived quest that will test the bonds of love and redefine their relationship forever.Petra Velzeboer overcame a traumatic childhood to become a counsellor for vulnerable young people before campaigning for improved mental health services. A must-have book about the power of one’s voice and the friendships that emerge when you are yourself. This, although interesting, could have been a book in itself and I could see that some of it could be relevant to this book.

Lured into the covert world of resistance, her life in the hands of the London code-breakers, Kay’s betrayal of her husband is complete as she risks her home and children to protect ‘Felix’ an SOE agent who cannot even tell her his name. You're in good hands with Leah as she guides you through the pain and joy of her unfettered childhood. Amoebae, orange trees, frogs, leopards, bacteria, tulips, turtles, salmon—all have physical limits that delineate them as unique from other organisms. Petra's vision for the new world of work focuses on dynamic leadership, success in a hybrid world, and creating space for skill development to enhance forward momentum.

This book brings inspiration, practical thinking and true thought leadership that I would recommend to anyone who wants a new angle on how to view their wellbeing at work.

And as touched on above, all the right key points are mingled into this 200 page monologue, I just found it personally too much effort to sift through to find them. Yes I can adopt these methods myself and be a role model, but if no-one above me is modelling them too it's difficult, and can bring on guilt and shame that you are not acting as others do. Although she suggests reaching out to co-workers who may be having mental health difficulties I did wonder about confidentiality and trust. Were it not so, when we sat down, we’d pass right through the chair (and the chair through us) and be sprawled on the floor. An interesting read but more beneficial for individuals who have responsibility at workplaces to put ideas into practice.
