She has been working as a developmental therapist with babies and toddlers in early intervention since 2010. Unless someone chews through or causes damage to anything else they chew on (chews through pencils, chews holes in shirts, etc.

EASY TO ASSEMBLE: You first need to unscrew the cap, then pass the straw through the cap hole and adjust it to a suitable length. I was advised not to use sippy cups because they can delay oral motor development, but was told straws are better and also serve a purpose for drinking as an adult.

In some therapy circles, the honey bear is an obvious adaptation that is used to help kids learn to drink from a straw. The Tiny Talker Too is the newest AAC device from The Tiny Talker family of communication solutions. The flexible straw and the squeezable body of this cup make it the perfect tool to wean a child from bottles or sippy cups.

I started thinking about it and realized he chokes every time he would drink, and he eventually just gave up because he was scared of choking again! we have a Contigo autospout kids water bottle for water, because my daughter loves mine and figured out straw/sucking right away, but we needed something easier to clean for milk at daycare (had the munchkin weighted straw bottles, but they got GROSS! The Bear Bottle features a unique valve that controls the direction of fluid - liquid flows up into the straw, but does not flow back down. While we waited for it to arrive in the mail, I used disposable straws but pinched the straw almost all the way closed to stop him from drinking to much at a time.

When you gently squeeze the tummy it brings that liquid almost all the way to the top so your little ones don’t have to do as much work to get it out, yet they are able to start to understand that sucking on the cup will give them a drink. The cups are soft enough for kids to squeeze, yet strong enough to prevent accidental flattening and fall-resistant. He won’t use any other types of sippy cups or straws, but keeps pulling the straw out of the Honey Bear cup. The GI specialist recommended speech therapy and I was super reluctant because I really didn't think he had an issue with speech or eating. This is a great cup to use when you are starting to feed your child solids and they are ready to learn how to drink from a cup. The only thing I don’t love is the cap because it’s really a honey bottle cap so you don’t need the flip top. BUT my husband and I hate them bc the caps break off and our daughter constantly pulls the straw out and throws it across the room 🤦‍♀️. My baby is 6 months and I’ve been introducing an open cup, but I’m thinking a straw cup might be easier/less messy in the long run. ARK's Bear Bottle is a fun and friendly way to make drinking easier for beginners and/or children with oral motor difficulties.
