About this deal

I’m almost ashamed to say that this time around, I fell asleep constantly during the Mello and Near episodes.

I know that usually the JPBD is superior to the USBD but maybe the Omega Edition is the one to go for? It’s bizarre how a series that is only thirty-seven episodes long manages to contain an extensive amount of story as well as continusiouly change its character; and while at times elements of the series may seem slow paced they do nothing but build-up to the events of another death, or trick, being played out by the key characters. The regular police are reluctant to hunt someone who can kill at whim and from a distance, but for L even the supernatural is a challenge to be relished. This Company will not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage in whatever manner, howsoever caused, resulting from your disclosure to third parties of personal information. Just a couple days ago Netflix released the trailer for the American movie adaptation they have been working on, so that shows how much the show is still growing outside the regular fandom.

The series really does go off the rails during their tenure, but thankfully it’s less than a third of the whole run, and Death Note really pulls things back together for its final two episodes, perhaps the best conclusion ever given to an anime. The episodes have the Japanese credit sequences, and there are no translated credit reels, or credit screens. Determined to use this dark gift for the best, Light sets out to rid the world of evil… namely the people he believes to be evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer.

You have to remember that we got Death Note on DVD back when every anime got an NTSC-PAL standards conversion, and wound up looking worse than the US NTSC releases, so just getting the show at the correct frame rate, without ghosting is already going to be a step up.Of course the ever popular (and approachable) Dragon Ball Z was one of these franchises but Death Note was also another series that gained popularity; and for an entirely different reason. Sure enough small amounts of grain can be seen in certain scenes; but this is unavoidable due to the age of the series and, in some aspects at least, can add to the overall experience – as Death Note was a relatively grainy show at times. Collected across 6 discs containing all 37 episodes of the hit anime series plus the bonus Death Note: Relight OVAs.

The second thing is that the colour palette on DVD is limited in comparison to Blu-ray, so you don’t always see the colours that the creators intended. What I’m bothered about is the fact that L is being played by American actor Keith Stanfield when in the story it is made clear that he spent much of his childhood in England, while his assistant Watari is still being played by an Asian actor, Paul Nakauchi. If I ever do watch it again, I’ll make sure to stick to the first two-thirds where Light faces off against L, and then skip to the final two episodes for the conclusion.Well for starters it has been remastered in High Definition and offers a superior quality product to the original DVD release (something of which we discussed in our comparison article); additionally it also bundles the OVA movies – of which retell the events of the entire anime in four hours – within this collection. When shinigami Ryuk (voice of Shidou Nakamura) gets bored of his lifestyle, he decides to see what a human would do with a Death Note and so places one in the human world.

Manga Entertainment UK will soon be releasing the iconic murder-mystery-thriller anime Death Note onto Blu-ray; but what can one expect from the overall quality and will it be better than the already released, and much cheaper, DVD variation? In regards to audio quality then only LPCM (for TV Series) and Dolby Digital (for the movies) are included; but thankfully the original English and Japanese audio are left intact – is it good, or is it bad? Draco, the ancient Greek lawgiver from whom we get the word “draconian”, was incredibly harsh, executing people for the smallest of offences (e.Thinking about ripping my own encode cause none of the ones on Nyaa are satisfactory for the quality I’m looking for and wanted to make sure I get the best remux for video, which I will combine with the best audio sources I can find but one step at a time so yeah. The character and world designs are excellent, and the level of detail and fluidity of motion speaks to a high investment in the animation. The incidental music on the other hand is really quite notable, taking a leaf from Danny Elfman when it comes to spooky and quirky, and certainly suits the bizarre Ryuk character down to a T. Death Note looks fantastic, the line art is smooth, the detail levels are as good as you can hope to get from an upscale, without significant artificial filtering or sharpening, and there is no compression visible at all. The American Blu-ray release of Death Note, which saw the thirty-seven episodes across five Blu-ray discs, featured all of the DVD bonus features retained and used; however with this UK Blu-ray release we have nothing.
