Thankfully I have average sized auditory canals and pinnae so the headphone fits quite well with the default ear pieces (they've included 2 other sizes in the whitish bag shown above). The noise floor is extremely high and IMO there's no benefit and a waste of money going "hi-res" on a recording that doesn't even tax 16-bit CD resolution! Using a mix of old-school practical effects and models with new digital effects, he created a beautiful yet horrifying landscape that echoes the world presented in the first film, but shows that humanity has stumbled further into a frightful dystopia where it rains all day, snows all night, and the sun rarely pierces the haze that lingers above Los Angeles.

The outer reaches of the city has a hazy flat white as if a cloud has permanently settled over the landscape. The characters are intoxicating, and completely relatable, and yet so distinct and larger than life. The accompanying audio presentation is just as magnificent as the video, delivered in the guise of an object-based immersive audio track. I literally would, and could go on for many more paragraphs talking about the detail, if I didn’t stop myself, and just leave it simply put: it’s downright visually amazing.I was a little worried about purchasing this film due to watching a YouTube video saying this particular release doesn’t have true HDR! K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. To find the truth, K must seek out assistance from a former Blade Runner known as Deckard (Harrison Ford) who has been missing for over thirty years. By the way, although the soundtrack is rather loud and compressed, the Dolby TrueHD-Atmos encoding sounds good (even without an Atmos set-up).

Here's one where we can really see that the chroma channel "resolves" the scanlines composing electro-Joi quite noticeably.

Just bear in mind that the range and scale of Blade Runner 2049’s Atmos soundtrack is so epic that you need a pretty potent speaker system to do it anything like the justice it deserves. Bassheads, action junkies, and sci-fi aficionados are going to LOVE this mix, as it is easily one of the best Atmos mixes of the year. Might as well wait for when true ultra-hi-def movies are more plentiful and broadcasts are available.

As usual, I wished they didn't compress the album as much - come on audio engineers, let's maybe aim for at least DR10 for these female "jazz" vocal albums please. He has crafted a film which has a unique identity, which boasts the quintessential style associated with the filmmaker, yet is so heavily entrenched in everything you'd expect to see from a film set in the Blade Runner universe that it feels like an organic continuation of the original movie. Shot with Arri Alexa cameras and finished at a 4K digital intermediate master, Blade Runner 2049 looks absolutely amazing.First off, our blade runner “K” is led by superior officer at the LAPD, “ Lieutenant Joshi” ( Robin Wright), who he reports back to constantly. The only way this presentation could have been better is if Dolby Vision had been available on disc, but what's here is likely to be the best there ever will be on physical media.
