The microsuede is soft and plush, but also offers enough grip that if our heads moved away from the pillow's center during the night, we didn't have to worry about it sliding off as we did with most of the inflatable pillows.

The cover and the thin insulation layer just add to this and give it more of a pillow feel, and add some warmth against your face. Removing it from its stuff sack and inflating the Fillo Elite is quite simple and straightforward; however, closing off the twist valve without losing air was surprisingly a little more difficult than we anticipated. Its block-shaped design allows the pillow to easily fill the notch between the head and shoulders, making it perfect for side sleepers. That being said, I prefer the pillow a little less than fully inflated since this more evenly distributes the pressure while sleeping. Regardless of sleeping preferences, all of our testers agree that the differentiating characteristics of the Fillo are its memory foam layer and microsuede exterior.The integrated stuff sack is conveniently sewn into the inside of the cover so that it can never be misplaced. You can bring it on an airplane, a long roadtrip, or use it as lumbar support, or keep it stashed in your pocket for an emergency nap. The Fillo's stuff sack is too small, making it more difficult than necessary to pack this pillow up. We designed the Fillo™ Elite with a layer of 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Primaloft® insulation, combined with a 3” I-beam baffled air cell and an ultra-soft jersey cover.This pillow is not perfection, but it scores neck-and-neck with our favorite backpacking-focused model, and is a great choice for bringing a reasonably comfortable head cushion into the backcountry. However, for more normal temps when you’re wearing that jacket and any extra clothing in your sleeping bag at night, you'll have slim pickings for a makeshift pillow and a backpacking pillow is (for most of us) needed to get us through the night in comfort. With a hut trip planned in Colorado for the holidays Amelia and I set about brainstorming another adventure to tack onto what seems to be our annual road trip out West. If you are looking for a camping pillow to keep you comfortable on almost any trip you take it on; we are confident that you will enjoy this one as much as we did. As I mentioned above, the weight was too much for me and so my Fillo only came on two backpacking trips before I retired it.I threw out the idea to some friends though and settled on the 1st weekend in November to give it a go, and it really worked out beautifully. The result is a pillow that is soft and yielding like your pillow at home, feels big when cradling your head, yet packs surprisingly small. This Elite version shaves off a lot of weight and packed size at the expense of comfort and support. When you compare its weight against its overall comfort and size, it's clear why it's one of our favorite ultralight backpacking pillows.
