About this deal

Whether you're a seasoned player or a beginner, the Tenor Mahogany Ukulele offers a timeless design and reliable performance, inviting you to explore the rich and melodic world of ukulele music. The Agathis wood choice delivers a traditional balanced tone with a dark appearance that is very classy in a world of brightly coloured beginner ukes.

The paint does chip too unless its really looked after – but great to take if u think u can con someone into playing with you. For quite a long time I’ve recommended Makala Dolphins (among others) to ukulele newcomers but it’s fair to say not everyone wants a dolphin on their ukulele. The dodgy C string on the original set was gone and I now have a uke that I am really really pleased with. I have the Makala MK-S Soprano but I’ve cheated and tuned it GDAE using a dedicated string set that Aquila produce for the purpose. If you enjoy this blog, donations are welcomed to allow me to invest more time in bringing you ukulele articles. Ok It’s my first Uke and it’s a gift from my wife but, it’s ok, I can learn a lot of things, the sound it’s not bad and it stays in tune for a long time. The geared machineheads offer good tuning stability, as do the fitted Aquila strings (notwithstanding the usual 'stretching' that occurs).

These similarities are unsurprising as the man behind Kala, Mike Upton, started the company after leaving Hohner, Lanikai’s parent company. The action could be brought down with a bit of basic setup work, but that sort of thing may go beyond the skill and comfort level of a beginner. It’s great little uke for taking out to the beach, or a campsite, places where I won’t take my other uke. While it’s not the same uke (the Dolphin has a plastic back and sides with an agathis top) and the sound is pretty different, in my opinion it’s on a par with the Dolphin in terms of value for money. This ukulele is SUPER sturdy so can withstand some pretty boisterous playing and sound exploring, it’s colourful and also makes a good sound and holds it’s tuning well.
