About this deal

Maybe the thing that stops this reissue being a complete disaster is some of the mixes that were expected to be wrong are actually correct although not all. I definitely wouldn’t have put it on side 4 but the end of the first side might have worked as well. while on 1986’s Now 7 we got treated to the Alternative 7” of Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money). According to our music teacher at the time, they had compiled the album and had all the sleeves and inlay cards pressed, when Queen stepped forward and said: “Hang on!

The presentation of each release has evolved notably over time: from 1986 through to 2013, all double and triple CD sets were released in chubby Jewel cases which could hold up to 6 discs. Now for some dope hip hop: Fresh from the Roxanne wars is The Real Roxanne with Hitman Howie Tee and (Bang Zoom) Let’s Go Go while it’s spooky vocoder time with Lovebug’s Starski’s chilling Amityville (The House On The Hill).

The Germans and Dutch were much more proactive in this regard with CDs of V/A comps emerging from 1984.

The original Now Dance series began in 1985 and has been released in a variety of titles, formats, and release frequency. Nu Shooz’s I Can’t Wait and Midnight Star’s Headlines are just perfect; quintessential mid-80s funk jams. Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait: Great synth riff, more on which later as it was sampled in a track on a later Now!

Elsewhere The Housemartins finally make a breakthrough with the infectious Happy Hour [their third single after the lack of success for Flag Day and Sheep]. Genesis came back with a bang in 1986; Invisible Touch is one of the greatest pop albums ever with five smash hits; the title track being the taster. Some dispute over whether Big Country is the right mix although I have listened to both single and album mix on YouTube and I can't tell them apart. November 2023) 33 tracks with only Kate Bush and Lil Louis missing, although Lil Louis was just a bonus track on the original CD version and did not appear on the vinyl and magnetic cassette versions. I hadn’t actually noticed before that it was a different version of ‘Opportunities’ (in fact I didn’t even know there was one, not being a big PSB fan) but that is another selling point for Now 7 which is a pretty good one. Component parts came into the studio in large numbers so it was always chaos in Abbey Road with packages of master tapes arriving the whole time so not everything always went exactly to plan. Doctor and the Medics - Spirit in the Sky: Great cover of Norman Greenbaum, another one I remember from the 'Glam Rock 3' VHS.

Three tracks are missing from this reissue: David Bowie’s ‘Absolute Beginners’, ‘On My Own’ (Patti Labelle And Michael McDonald) and The Real Roxanne’s Bang Zoom (Let’s Go Go). Some of them have unique track listings and are not related to similarly themed collections already issued on compact disc, however, more recent releases have been 'selections' taken from a larger CD collection (Rock, for example). The inaugural album graced the United Kingdom's music scene in 1983, with the United States following suit in 1998. An earlier compilation tie-in with Smash Hits from 1987 did, however, include tracks from those years. They all vary from one to five disc compilations (occasionally six disc), starting in 1986 and continuing to the present day (Jan 2023).In November 2018, the Now team took over the " 100 Hits" brand from Demon Music Group, and in 2019 and 2020, the Special Editions series was effectively rested while 24 different Now 100 Hits compilations were issued in very quick succession, until the end of November 2020.
