You can put it through “the Beatles process,” which will make it more rich and warm and musical, but it’s not really going to help with the slamming aggression very much. Talking to the 54-year-old about Loveless is fascinating because it’s clear that the record is, for him, very much a living thing that exists in the present.

Whilst I can't speak for the MPO pressing as I own a Townhouse (and I've heard the MPO sounds far more akin to the original CD), the Townhouse sounds more like all the instruments are balanced and mixed together equally, not putting particular emphasis on any given element and letting it all flow as one overwhelming wall of sound, compared to the 2021 reissue which emphasises certain elements more. Comparing this to my deluxe 2021 reissue, and the differences are honestly far more notable than I expected for an album like this. What scientists discovered in the past five years is that when they look at people who work with sound in a professional capacity, the part of their brain [that processes sound] tends to be about five times bigger. Vinyl might be delivered unsealed as we have to open copies to check vinyl colours, if not sufficiently labeled by the distributor / label. but if you already own a 2021 deluxe copy of this album then you're already good to go unless you're either a collector or really curious.
