About this deal

It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. The magic of the brain is not found in the parts it's made of but in the way those parts unceasingly reweave themselves in an electric living fabric. Your neural networks are not hardwired but livewired, reconfiguring their circuitry every moment of your life. It has a compelling, curiosity-based narrative and relies on a broad spectrum of neuroscience sub-domains.

Excellent book about the plasticity of the brain -- about how every experience we have changes the brain, and about how the brain maximizes it resources to interpret the data coming in from our senses. We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. My only slight doubt about this one is that I was a person who did this at the time, but I never noticed the effect, nor did I hear of it from anyone else. Tази книга е изключително информативно и вълнуващо пътешествие в може би най-непознатата и необяснима територия - човешкия мозък.

And there is no more accomplished and accessible guide than renowned neuroscientist David Eagleman to help us understand the nature and changing texture of that fabric.Den nya signalen beter sig inte likadant som den "riktiga" och upplevs till en början som brus för att sedan övergå mer och mer till en upplevelse som liknar den utan hörselskada.

This was a result of one of these short term adaptations to compensate for an apparent oddity of the surroundings. However, there was a problem that a fellow reviewer pointed out; some of the information is incorrect and as I read these type of books to feed my polymathic nature and enthusiasm for learning new things this is an issue. Plasticiteten eller “formbarheten” minskar över tid, något som sker olika snabbt i olika delar av hjärnan beroende på hur konstant informationen är. I really loved Eagleman's discussion of the waterfall effect, and how it doesn't represent, as is often though, fatigue of sensory neurons, but actually represents an active recalibration. Eagleman packs this book chock full with basic neuroscience knowledge - what we currently know about how the brain works, and we're only just scratching the surface - illustrated by rich, captivating examples.Eagleman’s infectious enthusiasm, his use of fascinating anecdotes, and his clear, effortless prose render the secrets of the brain’s adaptability into a truly compelling page-turner. Plasticity has been known about for a long time and none of the information in the book was more than I learnt in my undergraduate degree. The theme of this book broadly is brain plasticity, highlighting how the brain is actually a general purpose computing machine that would ably use any input presented from birth as long as it consistently predicted something about the outside world. But we know it should be possible, because everyone reading these words is an existence proof: your biology includes 3 pounds of this alien computational material. Whilst the ideas are good, there’s not a lot there to use constructively and there’s no mathematical or information theoretical analysis presented to demonstrate learning in a competitive neural substrate.
