About this deal

This is not usually possible with controllers that use wrappers, because if the wrapper is focussed on, for example, channels 1-8 in your DAW, it will pass this information to all connected controllers so they will all be focused on the same thing. If you are approved for a credit limit with PayPal Credit and use it for future purchases, the APR for those purchases wont be more than 23. As you've probably already read, the keybeds are semi-weighted and Tim explained to me that they had been designed to satisfy both piano and synth players. In this mode, you would need to use a combination of the P1’s comprehensive configuration options and those of your software application to map the various hardware controls to (for example) your DAW’s controls.

The big question for me is how well the P1 can control plugins, and how easy it is to map your own as needed. While the Mixer and Instrument modes will be where most time is probably spent, the Transport mode offers some useful additional options. In addition the deep instrument and device control integration technology created by Nektar for Cubase and Reason enables transparent control, as if you were operating hardware. This setting determines how quickly Panorama’s encoders scroll through parameter values; the options are Off, Lin Step, Slow, Standard and Fast. Press this and it will send all of the Presets and Maps in sysex format out via the Panorama’s primary MIDI output port. Your own user patches can also be imported or saved, so over time there will be quite a few patches to choose from in the Nektarine browser. Internal: MIDI information generated by Panorama’s keyboard and controls will be transmitted directly to external MIDI devices.

Considering what's on offer on the current market I would say that Panorama controllers represent good value for money when you consider what they give you. Take this as an example: let's say that you are using an encoder with a fixed start and end point (i. Now, we suddenly want to skip to slightly raise the level of track 9, which is currently set to -8dB in the software, so we shift along one bank so that our first fader is now controlling track 9.That said, the unit packs a lot of controls into a stylish-looking device and does so for a relatively low cost. If, for example, the reverb time in your software is set to its maximum value, the encoder on your controller will not mirror this because it will still be set in the 12 o'clock position. For example, at the budget end of the market the Behringer BCR2000 and BCF2000 both offer good performance and excellent value for money. MIDI Jack Source*: Determines whether Panorama’s MIDI Out jack will transmit data generated by Panorama or from an external USB source such as a computer. The “Track -/+” navigation buttons below the display let you change tracks (or mixer channels, depending on the mode), “Patch -/+” browses patches for Studio One internal instruments and instruments that save their patches inside Studio One, “View” toggles the visibility of all floating windows.

Envelopes, filter control and other important instrument parameters are assigned to Panorama’s controls. The mode buttons assign Panorama’s hardware controls to take over the right controls in Studio One: When you press “Mixer”, “Instrument” or “Transport”, Panorama’s control assignments are completely re-configured and the display is updated accordingly:
The channel name is displayed for the currently selected track along with the selected menu, so it’s easy to get around without getting lost. Finally, I'm going to mention the set-up and Tim himself admitted that a Panorama controller couldn't really be described as 'plug and play'. Color coding clearly tells you which environment you are controlling so you don’t get confused as you switch back and forth. For example, in mixer mode you can control the mute and solo statuses of each track, or in instrument mode the buttons might be used to toggle plug-in parameters.

For this reason, the position of an encoder with a fixed start and end point would rarely reflect the position of the parameter that it was controlling in the software. If you use Reason or Cubase, you just get a bonus, although as I mentioned, the Panorama team have confirmed that they are working on creating deep integration with more DAWs and more plug-ins are constantly being announced as Panorama-compatible, so if you own a Panorama, things should just continue to get better and better.
