About this deal

He’s ran into many people over the years that have certainly hindered and not helped, but the honesty in which he tells his story is very Nat-esque. With Nat’s nine no-nonsense rules, you’ll be on the road to being a better d*ckhead faster than you can say ‘get in the bin’ to jar sauce. The ethos of ‘put a whole fucken bulb of garlic in, or fucken don’t, whatever trevor’ is how I think we should all be living our lives. Being able to recognise and say no to things that you know won't help you is what gives you boundaries and personality.

From describing his childhood, to accidental fame this read will not disappoint the"Nats what I reckon" you tuber fans or greater alternative audiences. It properly made me laugh out loud and at the same time had me nodding along with so many of Nat's takes on life.

When he’s not filming, cooking or purloining rosemary from a local traffic island, Nat can often be found indulging his love of rock’n’roll and comedy, playing in bands and stand-up rooms around Australia and abroad. If you’re looking for some laughs with a touch of introspection and a new winner to add to your dinner repertoire though, then you’re spot on with this one. His attitude, his compassion, his commitment to honesty and laughter, his unwillingness to suffer fools. Beware, it includes explicit language and Australian slang but comes with a handy glossary to help understand the slang (and sometimes the swearing). He seems to have genuinely had a really interesting life as well so finding out more about him has been a treat.

I highly recommend the audiobook, I laughed out loud several times - if you like Nat's videos, you'll like the audiobook. He's been through some shit and he has so many endearing qualities that make you think so highly of this guy. Living in the US, it took awhile to get here, and it took even longer for me to get around to reading it. Uncook Yourself: A Ratbag’s Rules for Life was maybe perhaps not a book that I expected to see in an audiobook format. In particular are the bits about how diet culture bamboozles people; the self-help machine; and, a world that doesn’t really loosen up easily for those who don’t always follow conventional paths.

There are no questionable ingredients here: purely Nat’s trademark humour, a big dash of cheekiness and some genuinely handy culinary tips to boot. The book however is a ripper of a yarn by a guy who has been through a lot, and come out the other side wiser, sounder and confident enough to carve his own path.
