About this deal

Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall).

I often found myself pausing and making a special note of some terminologies and concepts, and that to me is the hallmark of a good book. JUNKO GRAAT (illustrator) trained and worked as a graphic designer in Japan and came to England to study European horticulture.Perry has an accessible, clear writing style that lays everything out without dumbing it down, always reminding the reader that her story is introductory in nature, offering the basics so as to give a good idea of what the process of therapy entails. These notes are rather like a really good commentary track on a DVD, in which the director gives more background detail on specific points.

appreciated the process tracking, thinks she does it the best amongst all the other authors of psychotherapy tales i’ve read so far.Couch Fiction is Philippa Perry's creative attempt to show, via the medium of the graphic novel, what the practice of therapy is really about, and that success in therapy depends on the quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist. Whether it's more interesting for its content, or simply by the fact of its existence, I'll leave up to you, dear reader . And even though the comic is drawn only in black and white, the art is well done and keeps the reader's attention. As she notes, there's no such thing as a perfect therapist; and she doesn't hesitate to note her fictional counterpart's mistakes along the way.

Beautifully illustrated and accompanied by succinct and illuminating footnotes, this book offers a witty and thought-provoking exploration of the therapeutic journey, considering a range of skills, insights and techniques along the way. I'm training as a counsellor and found it to be a really useful read - the drawings are also great at showing what could be going on in someone's mind throughout the therapy process. It was easy to sit and read this in one sitting mainly because it’s so accessible and also interesting. I read this thinking it would be an interesting comic and, as a comics fan of both popular and indie varieties, gave this a try. Besonders gelungen finde ich die Idee, den Bildern mit Sprech- und Gedankenblasen noch (optional zu lesenden) Text unten hinzuzufügen, der interessierten Leser*innen fachliche Zusatzinformationen zum Geschehen liefert.I was also thrilled and didn't fully twig until the end that the author of the book is none other than Philippa Perry, Grayson Perry's wonderful wife. Her second book, How to Stay Sane, was written for a series published by the School of Life and Pan Macmillan in 2012. Possibly good to those with a passing interest in psychotherapy, but not a great comic and not a great read. The novel focuses on the psychoanalysis of James Clarkson Smith and shows his progress from scared new client to healthy individual, with all of the ups and downs of therapy interposed. It's the visual equivalent of Perry's prose style, with the emphasis always on making everything clear to the reader.
