About this deal

The packaging was exceptional with 4 layers of bubble wrap and 2-3 layers of fortified cardboard – I could have jumped onto it and nothing would have happened. We take intellectual property concerns very seriously, but many of these problems can be resolved directly by the parties involved. Loved and loathed beyond measure, the televised Batman (ABC, 1966–68) arrived sufficiently late in the day to recognize itself as a manufactured craze. The characters quote their lines in a manner suggesting the then-current vogue for adverbial puns known as Tom Swifties (“Careful with that chain saw,” Tom said offhandedly).

Although not published until 1964, the story was written three years earlier, around the time that Barthelme became director of Houston’s Contemporary Arts Museum and Warhol, one of the canniest analysts of American mass culture since Kurtzman and his colleagues, intervened in the Batman saga. Neo-Pop artists like Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami further blurred the line between art and popular culture. With their skewed angles and looming shadows, the drawings of Batman’s escapades among the skyscrapers and in the back alleys of Gotham City were an analogue to film noir avant la lettre. The signature of the Author and the manufacturer's logo in the screen images is set as a "watermark". Just as Superman, an interplanetary immigrant invented by two Jewish teenagers at the height of worldwide anti-Semitism, has been envisioned as a crypto-Jew (by Feiffer among others), so Batman was imagined as having a second secret identity.

However, there were many important female Pop artists, such as Rosalyn Drexler, whose significant contributions to the movement are recognized today. In a sense, Warhol’s Sleep (1963) and Empire (1964) paved the way for such outrageous duration and built-in repetition. Many episodes begin by establishing Gotham City by way of an actual Manhattan location, and real New York geography is occasionally acknowledged. He patterned his work off of mass media like advertising and comic books to help convey his messages.

I said to my brother, “Wouldn’t it be funny if I could remake this as a Batman version of “Silence of the Lambs”. At its best, the TV show suggests a high-budget Kuchar brothers production directed from a Barthelme script. Through irony, it reflected the society of the time, marked by consumerism, materialism, the cult of image and fashion.

If you select the stretched option, your reproduction of Batman will be stretched over a timber frame and arrive ready to hang straight on the wall. If you have another image of Batman that you would like the artist to work from, please include it as an attachment. After sending her a photo of my space in the lounge for advice on what canvases might look nice to hang she also suggested the canvases would look great with white float frames. London-born artist Richard Hamilton is widely believed to have had a pioneering role in Pop art, which drew on imagery from popular culture - comic books, advertising, product packaging and other commercial media - to create paintings and sculptures that celebrated ordinary life in the most literal way. So for my son’s birthday this year I decided to get a 24” x 16” “Photo on Canvas” done for him of a picture of Sydney at sunset from “Watson’s Bay” I took myself when vising him last year (this picture is very special to him). The show’s strongest defense was published by New York Times columnist Russell Baker the week after Mr. Judging from a handful of existing hundred-foot 16-mm camera rolls (of which there are well over a hundred), this enterprise seems to have been envisioned as a posher version of the polymorphously perverse, intermittently orgiastic dress-up fool-arounds featured in Smith’s Flaming Creatures (1963) and his work in progress Normal Love (1963–65). We have listed a few sizes that maintain the same proportions as the size of the original painting, therefore no cropping or alterations are required.
