About this deal

Remove the cover on the central pivot to expose the tripod adapter mount. (Image credit: Tantse Walter) Diopters correct the differences in the focus between the two binocular barrels, allowing compensation in eye strength variations. Not only does this result in a clearer image for the user but it also reduces the chance of eyestrain and headaches. Many binoculars carry a diopter range from -4 to +4, but the Celestron 12x60's range is a generous -4 to +8, allowing for stronger adjustments for weaker strength eyes. Well, you are right that if I measure the outside aperture of my 12x60s with a ruler it will come out at 60mm. But from shining a laser through the eyepiece of them and measuring how the disk of light that comes out the aperture I get 54mm. So there is an internal baffle. As for the exit pupil figure, I measured mine at 4.5mm which is what it should if I've only really got 12x54s. So honesty in one area and not so much in another. We were able to use the Celestron SkyMaster 12x60 to help search vast countryside landscapes for a missing dog. (Image credit: Tantse Walter) Coming in as one of the oldest released models (2005), this version offers affordability and a rugged look. Poised in the middle of the SkyMaster range the 12x magnification is strong enough to get in close without necessarily needing a tripod and the 60mm objective lenses work are advantageous in low light conditions.

The other most frequently reported downside by reviewers is the weight of the binoculars. They weigh approximately 2.5 pounds, which can be uncomfortable for long periods of viewing, especially for stargazing. An area we’d like to see improvement would be in the adjustable eyecups. They are adjustable for eyeglasses wearers up to 17mm but are of the flip-down variety and we’d love to see these follow suit with some of Celestron’s other binoculars and have twist-down eyecups so that those who require it can fine-tune their placement during use. However, we’re splitting hairs here as they are much cheaper than many other binoculars and have good performance where it counts. I have a pair of Oberwerk 12x60 LW binoculars that I bought last year and love them! Especially since I can handhold them at 2.5#. But in this Cloudy Nights review, the author found that his pair was basically operating at 11.5x50mm. And that has got me to wondering if I could get more from a pair of Celestron 12x50s or Celestron 12x56s considering that they are truly the size they are listed as! So does anybody have on opinion on if I should stay away from the 12x56s and go instead for the 12x50s? I have a feeling that the 12x50 are better quality, but that extra aperture (and thus exit pupil) is really tempting.

Wide adjustable interpupillary distance could be improved on the narrow end. (Image credit: Jason Parnell-Brookes) Featuring a narrower objective lens diameter than their high-powered astronomy cousin (Celestron SkyMaster 20x80 Pro), the Celestron TrailSeeker model includes a wider eye relief, higher angle of view, and lower price point. The only thing Celestron's binos might have would be lighter weight and possibly flatter fields. Not gonna lie, I would love to do a side by side comparison of my 12x54s to those 12x50s!! The binoculars with lens caps. The eyepiece lens caps are perfect but the objective lens caps fall off and are a little loose. (Image credit: Jason Parnell-Brookes) These high-powered binoculars also feature fully waterproof housing, interchangeable eyecups, superior wide-angle viewing, and are fogproof to protect against internal fogging in differing ambient temperatures.Celestron has been a revered manufacturer and competitor in the astronomy market since 1960. They produce telescopes, microscopes, and, most importantly, binoculars. According to the oberwerk comparison chart, the 12x60 are operating at 90% of their objective size- so 54 mm
