About this deal

It usually only takes a matter of minutes to complete the form and in most cases a decision is instant and you can electronically sign the agreement. Vermiculite is a 100% natural material that can be used for void fill. It is made from aluminium-iron-magnesium-silicates and consists of thin, flat flakes. Also known as Micafil, it is sold in 100 litre (3.5 cubic ft) bags of lightweight chips and it is a great alternative to polystyrene chips.

Perlite is widely used in commercial hydroponics, seed starting and plant rooting, as a soil conditioner, and to enhance the water-holding and anti-compaction properties of growing soils. Vermiculite can be used for propagation from seed - its retention of water makes it good for sustaining the growth of seeds; potting compost for container planting - it retains moisture whilst protecting against adverse weather and aids re-wetting; and soil conditioning - its excellent water holding capabilities makes it an excellent addition to sandy soils or dried out ground. Vermiculite Fine (1.0-3.0mm)is used to improve aeration, water management, nutrient retention and exchange and has insulation properties in growing media. Please note that this material is sold in smaller bags than our standard loose fill chips. This makes it considerably easier to handle and store.

Expanded perlite is a white, ultra-lightweight aggregate ranging from a very fine powder to an aggregate with a particle size up to 5mm in size. It is inorganic, inert, neutral in pH, biologically stable and has no asbestos content. It has excellent thermal insulation properties over an extremely wide temperature range from cryogenics at minus 273°C (absolute zero) up to refractory applications at over 1000°C. It also has a highly adsorbent surface and a very low bulk density, which makes it an ideal carrier or low cost filler for many compound formulations. Perlite insulation is used in high temperature applications in the steel and foundry industries such as ladle topping, hot topping and risering. Another firm favourite with keen gardeners is vermiculite and when you want to retain water than choose to add vermiculite to your chosen media. Due to its high insulating qualities and versatility expanded perlite is widely used in the construction industry for masonry and other build types.

Vermiculite Micafil is as an excellent thermal insulating material capable of withstanding temperatures in excess of 1000C. Its nominal particle size is between 2 -15mm. Vermiculite Micafil with its free flowing properties of loose-fill, make it an excellent insulation for lofts. Micafil significantly reduces the loss of heat in cold weather and keep the interior cool in hot weather. Vermiculite is a group of hydrated laminar minerals -- aluminium-iron-magnesium silicates that resembles mica in appearance. These thin, flat flakes are subjected to high temperatures (700C to 1000C), and the vermiculite flakes will expand to many times their original size due to the microscopic layers of water within them turning to steam and forcing the laminar layers apart (exfoliation). The exfoliated vermiculite becomes granules containing microscopic air layers, which makes vermiculite lightweight and gives it excellent insulation properties. Vermiculite Micafil is clean to handle, nonabrasive, sound absorbent, resistant to decay, odourless and non-irritant.Nutrient buffering compliments this water buffering action and with high air content this is a very useful product as a growing medium, seed covering and compost amendment.

Vermiculite's key features include stabilising soil through effective aeration, and excellent moisture and nutrient retention - plus it won’t decompose or rot over time. Tips Vermiculite significantly reduces the loss of heat in cold weather and keeps the interior cool in hot weather Completely fireproof, non-irritant and fibre-free, very lightweight Micafil is used in so many ways. Free flowing and easy to install, it is ideal for thermal and acoustic insulation in lofts, between floors, interior cavity walls and for pipe protection. This characteristic of exfoliation, the basis for commercial use of the mineral, is the result of the mechanical separation of the layers by the rapid conversion of contained water to steam.Perlite can be supplied in a number of grades, depending on the particular requirements of the application. Micafil is typically used for chimney flue linings.

Using Vermiculite can also aid propagation when used as a top layer as it reduces evaporation and can help ensure the seed case is lost. By using Vermiculite, you can also reduce plant stress in extreme weather conditions due to its insulation properties.Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral – primarily a combination of silicon, magnesium and aluminium, it is easy to handle, sound absorbent, resistant to decay, fire-resistant and fibre-free Vermiculite is irritant-free, ultra-lightweight, non-toxic, odour free and fireproof up to 1300 degrees centigrade
