This ks2 reading resource has different levels of differentiation and starting points for your Year 3 / Year 4 class and includes the answers.

With his beloved soft toy Lionheart at his side, Richard has the courage to confront his night-time fears. This enchanting picture book has warm, atmospheric illustrations.LoveReading4Kids exists because books change lives, and buying books through LoveReading4Kids means you get to change the lives of future generations, with 25% of the cover price donated to schools in need. Join our community to get personalised book suggestions, extracts straight to your inbox, 10% off RRPs, and to change children’s lives. Although the illustrations are a bit creepy and questionable at times, it really draws the children in and makes the story unique. The vintage traditional circus feel is really nostalgic too and lends itself to a fun historical context of circus through the ages. I haven't gone through everything, but seems like these recources perfectly match the PoR teaching sequence. You have saved me so much work. Thank you!

How do the illustrations in this book compare with those in other picture books? Which do you prefer? Why?

Overview:

When Dad goes out to get some milk from the corner shop, a host of completely unexpected adventures befall him. I give this book five stars out of five because it is really interesting and is a adventure book and I’m like that person , so that’s why I really like this book and I hope other people like this book to . The story is about a boy who goes to a magic show with his family and his brothers don’t believe. There are other performers in the circus tent which initially invite the reader to continue reading and exploring the illustrations. Leon is then invited by the magician to be part of the show and as Leon is magically disappeared he arrives in the place where all the magic goes. Look at the front cover of the book and discuss what it might be about. Who is Leon? Where is ‘The Place Between’. Are there any clues in the illustrations? What does ‘Let the magic begin…’ mean? Assistance dogs may be taken into the concert hall where there are a limited number of suitable seats in row G of the stalls. If you prefer, you may leave your dog with a member of the cloakroom staff during the performance.

It would be even better if the flip charts were being saved in a different format so they can be used I re-read and re-reviewed this book after years of attending grammar training with it being the sole book used across counties which put me off. Thank goodness I returned years later to enjoy it for what it is. Your class are challenged to identify different nouns, verb, adjectives and adverbs from the story and group them.

Looking for something different

Imagine that Leon went through one of the ‘doorways to Somewhere Else’. Write a story that describes what happened to him next. A nice book, with interesting illustrations and a lot of imagination. It will be a great book for my "Show Must Go On" school theme, and I'm sure the children will like it and be enchanted by the illustrations.
