About this deal

Although it wouldn't hurt if there were more "party" (the celebratory kind, not the political one) in Silent Alarm, it's still a fine debut album with a lot of passion and polish; it's hard not to respect, if not fully embrace, the intensity and integrity of Bloc Party's music.

Frontwomen or bandleaders of colour can be found in positions of mainstream visibility, melding sounds and scenes without a second thought. The album discussed issues that have taken on more significance in broader culture in the years since: personal trauma as public entertainment, hedonism as a balm for extreme loneliness, queer love stories in a world that expects you to feel shame, racist surveillance and brutality. The cover art is a negative of the bare winter landscape by freelance photographer Ness Sherry used on Silent Alarm. Silent Alarm entered the UK Albums Chart and the Irish Albums Chart at number three, [30] [34] selling 61,737copies during the first week in the former country. s " Freak Scene", La Roux's " Quicksand (Nightrunners Edit)", and Bruce Springsteen's " 57 Channels (And Nothin' On)". The final track list included the Bloc Party EP edit of " Banquet" by Silent Alarm producer Paul Epworth.

Bloc Party commenced UK promotional touring in January 2005 by performing during the NME Awards Tour. The first time I heard this incredible album open with Every Time is the Last Time, I thought I’d put on the wrong record, now I can’t live without it rolling into Like Eating Glass.

On 22 September 2021, Bloc Party posted to their official Twitter account a sneak peek of the tracklist/recording progress of their soon to be released sixth studio album.

The Guardian 's Alexis Petridis was less receptive and commented that the "reedy vocals and lyrical evocations of suburban ennui.A few years ago, he almost cried when I suggested to him that his single How Will I Rest in Peace If I’m Buried By a Highway? But when you break it down, this union is a perfect example of exactly how far both indie and mainstream rock has come. Phares suggested that Bloc Party are more comfortable with lyrical proclamations than their contemporaries Franz Ferdinand or The Futureheads, [2] while Imran Ahmed of NME concluded, " Silent Alarm is no Franz Ferdinand.
