If I would have to say something negative in it is that at 10 mm it has just a bit of distortion at the corners but if you learn to level it in shots the distortion dissapears .

If you're interested in dabbling in ultra wide angle lenses, this is the lens to get if you have a cropped sensor camera. The built quality is decent and although it has some distortion at its wide end, it is perfectly acceptable considering its wide angle and plus it can be corrected in post-processing. There are a lot of photo/video cameras that have found a role as B-cameras on professional film productions or even A-cameras for amateur and independent productions. So just use the mid to long side of this lens if you are considering panoramas or landscapes with more detail. Corner sharpness is a particular bugbear; the Sigma lens simply displayed more instances of corner smudging than any of the other lenses on view.It rotates 50 degrees clockwise from ultrawide to wide; the 'right' way for Nikon, Pentax and Sony users, but opposite to Canon and Olympus lenses.

The lens is holding up to the increased resolution with strong color, contrast and rewarding fine detail, its a sharp lens for sure. I have also tested this lens on my older Nikon DSLR D7000 (featured by Nikon as an incompatible model) and it indeed does not work. I will comment on this after shooting some high contrast scenes outdoors if I feel it is significant. On the other hand, if you are contemplating low-light photography with this lens, then a wider aperture lens would serve you better.The petal-type lens hood is provided as standard, and fits positively onto the bayonet mount on the front of the lens. Color fringing is quite evident in high contrast areas near the edges of the image however it was not so bright as to appear in my uncorrected 8x10 prints. corner shading is around 1/3EV, and at ƒ/8 and smaller light falloff hovers around a quarter-stop differential. In overall impression the Sigma is comparable to the Tamron, a bit warmer but with similar contrast.

The focus ring is slightly stiff too, though has a comforting dampened feel to it, making it feel very smooth. Stopping down the aperture by one stop provides little change in sharpness over most of the range, though the mid-frame area gets sharper at 14mm f/8. The focus ring on this copy of the lens was very stiff, and took some firm two-finger effort to move it.

Specular highlights aren't quite round, have some striations and halo, and are not smoothly monochromatic. Manual override is a good feature to have in case you are shooting in difficult conditions and the lens is hunting. And the ultra-wide angle focal length range is very useful - I recommend a lens from this class to be part of all APS-C (1.

Average CA stays quite low as you zoom from 10 to 20mm, while the maximum value decreases quite rapidly, dropping to a very low level by 14mm. Fast continuous shooting, reliable autofocus and great battery life are just three of the most important factors. filters are large and relatively expensive, but this size has been growing more common in Canon-mount lenses in recent years. Where this lens does suffer somewhat at maximum wide angle is in the areas of chromatic aberration and light falloff ("vignetting") which were both on the high side.shows less vignetting at the same focal length and aperture settings, though stopped down differences are not significant. I'm not willing to take it apart to find out why it's designed this way, perhaps something to do with the way how they have to make it adaptable for the different camera mounts.
