About this deal

The Little People, Big Dreams books series portrays the inspiring lives of artists, designers, activists and scientists in a super-accessible way with sweet illustrations and by focusing on when they started out as children with a dream.

Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. Visit us in Washington, DC and Chantilly, VA to explore hundreds of the world’s most significant objects in aviation and space history. The dramatic 1928 flight brought her international attention and the opportunity to earn a living in aviation. Of the many books I have read on the life and loss of Amelia Earhart “East to the Dawn” is (in my opinion) the most believable and factual “life history” of this dedicated aviation pioneer. We also share information about your use of our site with our social media and analytics partners who may combine it with other information. Lavishly illustrated over-sized volume detailing with the life, career and disappearance of Amelia Earhart; issued for the 75th anniversary of her disappearance.

Now, good friend and lover Gene used the Bureau of Air Commerce resources to Americanize the "Line Islands" south and west of Hawaii, named Jarvis, Baker and Howland. I was glad when the book finally got into her actual preparations for the flight and the attempt itself, of course knowing the sad outcome, but not how it happened. Earhart soloed in 1921, bought her first airplane, a Kinner Airster, in 1922 and wasted no time in setting a women's altitude record of 4,267 meters (14,000 feet). Earhart married George Putnam in 1931 — hesitantly — on the condition that they would separate in a year if unhappy.I only forced myself to finish the book because a)it was a gift; b)I've been interested in Amelia Earhart since childhood; and c) I thought I should finish it so I could give it a complete review. Everyone today knows Amelia Earhart as a famous flier from the days when aviators were constantly fascinating the public with their, often deadly, exploits. Not only were they two of the most admired and respected women of all time, they were also good friends. This race, closely followed by the press and by the public who flocked to the stops along the way, proved that women could fly in rugged and competitive conditions. Amelia's identification with the house was so strong that she would continue to describe herself as a social worker who could fly an airplane, when interviewed about her future accomplishments.

It was a lot of fun though; I loved working with directors, photographers, designers, and I also wrote scripts, documentaries and texts for all kind of things. Above all, Amelia Earhart: The Thrill of It vividly captures the essence of Amelia Earhart and her unorthodox, unflinching zeal for living life. Read to see how with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt she prevented Gene Vidal from getting fired as Director of the Bureau of Air Commerce.

There are over 150 images, color and black/white, in the book to illustrate the various commitments she made. On March 20, 1937, Earhart crashed on takeoff at Luke Field, Honolulu, Hawaii, ending her westbound world flight that had begun at Oakland, California. Charles Lindbergh was propelled to world renown, and became the most admired man in America, when he became the first person to fly nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean the year before. As a woman in the twenty-first century it is both inspiring and depressing to see how far women have come (inspiring how far how fast, depressing that it wasn’t so long ago that things were so bad).

They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated!

Social Work - She worked as a teacher in 1925, and then as a social worker at Denison House (a women's settlement house) in Boston. I’ve been rating and reviewing books on Goodreads for multiple years now and I feel once again I have to say it is difficult to rate this book in terms of stars. Working for more than fifteen years for clients in top advertising agencies, her books combine creativity with learning, aiming to establish a new and fresh relationship between children and pop culture. This books follow Amelia Earhart, who overcame prejudice and technical problems to become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. The Little People, Big Dreams series, in particular, pores over the lives of extraordinary people, from Maya Angelou and Marie Curie to Frida Kahlo, and tells the stories of their extraordinary childhoods.
