About this deal

This is such a thought provoking book (the front and back endpapers alone are worth discussion) and it could be used with a KS2 audience as it evokes so many questions. Her parents are preoccupied with work and worry about Clara, whose hair is inexplicably falling out. I read this book as a digital book from Hoopla and enjoyed the magnifying feature that allowed you to zoom in on different parts of the text or illustrations. Sadly, I'd be fearful that parents of younger kids may cry indoctrination if this were in their student's room.

Then comes the "Note From The Author," which is more extensive than the average, and really inspiring and self-reflective, and which gives readers more to think about, on an adult level. It just goes to show that we are comparatively spoiled by the wealth of wonderful new books with positive messages about rainbow families and LGBTQIA+ characters that I would even consider rating this as anything but a 5-star book. Holocaust Memorial Day takes place every year on 27th January and marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. Each poem feeds into the next to tell the story of Frances, her own struggles, and the empathy she has for her sister’s mysterious hair loss. Owen Gent gives his imagination full rein in a series of sublime sequences that explore and expand the spare verbal narrative. An Australian Bachelor success story, Laura and Matt are the proud parents of two wild toddlers, Marlie-Mae and Lola.

Discussions will reflect on the themes raised by the poems in the collection, as well as the relationship between poetry and medicine more broadly. This is important for people to know its okay to struggle and sometimes you need to accept yourself before finding acceptance from others! Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, former Bachelor finalists and hosts of the number-one podcast Life Uncut, have fumbled their way through it all. From their sense of humor and kind heart, to their intelligence and strength, this book is a beautiful way to express your love and admiration. The poems are often searing, poignant and touching, with every word having an impact and wonderfully considered imagery that welcomes re-reading.Please ensure that book(s) are sent back unread, in the original packaging and your dispatch note is included. I zipped through this book, finding it alternately endearing and heartbreaking, and loved the additional information provided in the author’s note at the end. When Love, Love begins, Frances is just trying to survive school and stay under the radar so that she doesn’t get teased.

This could be for a special occasion, like a birthday or holiday, or maybe it could be a "just because" gift! It's bedtime for Suzy, but she's scared of monsters - and things get even more scary when Bunny disappears during the night! and our main character's sister (the final restaurant scene is really touching) and loved the rhythm throughout. He is a consulting psychologist to The Campaign to Change Direction which aims to change the story about mental health, mental illness, and wellness in this country, and he is coauthoring a children’s picture book on the topic. That said, I appreciate very much the frank and positive look at the use of "gay" as a pejorative and the main character's embrace of the word as accurate and a compliment, and it was surprising and refreshing to see the book express to children that some gay people still try to pretend they aren't gay because others believe gay is something to be ashamed of. A beautiful story for children and adults about the importance of looking up, paying attention and sharing adventures. And while I liked that it was set in Michigan, a little more setting would make this feel like that was worth pointing out.
