It is measured when you get to your ball. Only your tempo is registered at the swing. You can enter your average driving distance, but there is no auto measurement. I had about 1/2 battery life left as of this morning after the round. I can't recall seeing a battery level indicator at this time. The rubber band it comes with is….fine. Nothing special here, but on a golf course where you’re getting sweaty and moving frequently, it does the job.=
