The sound quality of the Dac is very good, true balanced. Sure there are better Dacs but are there better balanced Dac streamers at the same price? LCD Touch Screen I think the What Hi Fi selection of components is really predictable, when there are so many alternatives on the market and I was hoping they'll be a little adventurous.
It’s a damn good piece of kit for the price and wouldn’t look out of place in a top end, multi thousand pound system unlike the FiiO R7 which looks like it should be in a radio hams hut scanning police frequencies. A simple volume dial with a subtle LED glow around it completes the front panel. We like how you can control the brightness of the screen and the LED dial ring in varying increments. It’s a nice little touch in a product full of thoughtful little extras. Another extra feature? You can choose various spectrum visualisers or VU meter displays to be shown on screen – or neither – to add a layer of interest and retro charm to your streamer. i tried out a number of cables ....Chord Epic USB Vs Epic Coaxial - thats about as fair a comparison between interfaces as you can have - the coaxial sounded better to my ears (and my friends) i had previously used it with Chord Shawline Coaxial Vs Audioquest Coffee - not quite a level playing field but again we both prefered the coaxial input, the coffee was slightly more resolving but the coaxial had a bit more meat on the bones. In addition, custom VU meters are available for on-screen display itself built into a sturdy, modern-looking aluminum chassis. Smart control app The A6 has a lovely solid aluminium alloy chassis in a matt finish that is one of those that scratches or rubs up easily with dry hands, I usually use gloves when setting things up but when I adjusted the box on the shelf, I did manage to get a fingery smudge on the casework, that rubbed off with a cloth off easily.
Neither am I done with the comparisons to the Neo Stream. I maintain that iFi has the best affordable MQA decoding in the industry but the DMP-A6 runs it very close which makes it a formidable option for Tidal Connect. There’s a certain irony that, just as MQA’s future is looking uncertain, hardware is hitting the market that manages to overcome some of my earlier reservations about how it sounds but, whatever happens, the DMP-A6 has you usefully covered in this regard. No matter how we play songs and from whatever source, the Eversolo takes it all in its stride. It’s a very taut, punchy sound. The streamer delivers music with solid, clear notes and good space around instruments – it’s an upfront presentation that sounds as efficient as it is to use. We find this approach isn’t aggressive or hard in any way at either side of the frequency range – it just wants to be noticed. delicate vocals to be the focus of your attention... the bass response is excellent. There's all the depth you could reasonably require, but it never comes at the expense of that effortless detail retrieval and excellent integration with the upper registers. The soundstage is also beautifully judged. The Eversolo is dependent on TuneIn Radio for internet radio and this has limitations, especially when it is called upon to access BBC content. AirPlay can be used to send the BBC Sounds App to the DMP-A6 but there’s no Cast for Android users (although there is aptX Bluetooth as a quasi-acceptable substitute). The absence of the simple but useful Bluetooth remote handsets that the Zidoo players come with is also a slight annoyance. It’s not that the Eversolo can’t be used without it but it reduces the convenience factor slightly. The unit itself is a fantastic thing, full of functionality and well laid out and designed. I have bought this and am setting it up for a friend as he's not too technical, but this does give me the perspective of comparing it with my own unit which is Auralic Altair G1, which uses the same DAC chips (but was more than double the price). The Eversolo DMP-A6 is a network audio streamer. We’ll cover the spec at length (and I’ll tell you now, it does a fair bit) but the most important thing to convey about the DMP-A6 is not what it is but what it isn’t. Eversolo is not a completely new company. It is a wing of Zidoo which has supplied a wide ranging set of components to us over the years. All of those devices; even the very audio orientated Neo S and Neo Alpha players, have video functionality built into their hardware. This is slightly niche but potentially very handy; if you want one box to handle everything, those two devices are extremely capable. It has the control and agility to deliver... exactly the right level of intensity...the DMP-A6 would be comfortable fronting a very capable digital-only system if you need it too. The transport functionality is arguably even more impressive.
