About this deal

Our current partner charities in the UK are READ International, the National Literacy Trust, Room to Read. From the bottom, afterglow illuminates the troposphere in orange with silhouettes of clouds, and the stratosphere in white and blue.

A classic of its kind, this book will heighten everyone’s awareness of today’s urgent ecological issues.

Sunlight is reflected off the ocean, after it was filtered into a redish light by passing through much of the troposphere at sunset.

Various industrial pollutants also may be present as gases or aerosols, such as chlorine (elemental or in compounds), fluorine compounds and elemental mercury vapor. Arthus-Bertrand's aerial photographs have been assembled into a daybook, using 170 shots from his original volume plus 195 new ones. This updated edition of the internationally acclaimed original features an updated text and over 100 breathtaking new photographs. Two older reliable sources have dry atmospheric compositions, including trace molecules, that total less than 100%: U. This is because the distance that particles can move without colliding with one another is large compared with the size of motions that cause mixing. Above this altitude lies the heterosphere, which includes the exosphere and most of the thermosphere. However, non-hydrometeorological phenomena such as the aurora borealis and aurora australis are occasionally seen in the thermosphere.

Atmospheric effects become noticeable during atmospheric reentry of spacecraft at an altitude of around 120 km (75 mi). Indeed, perhaps the most beautiful photographs reveal tortured, sinewy geological formation, showing how much our world is formed by the fragile strength of its own internal forces and resources as much as humankind deforms it. From majestic landscapes to rubbish dumps, the images are shockingly beautiful, but for Yann the most important part is the powerful environmental message which accompanies each image.Refractive index Distortive effect of atmospheric refraction upon the shape of the sun at the horizon.

Numbers are mainly from 2000, with CO 2 and methane from 2019, and do not represent any single source.

The stratospheric temperature profile creates very stable atmospheric conditions, so the stratosphere lacks the weather-producing air turbulence that is so prevalent in the troposphere. However, ionization in the mesosphere largely ceases during the night, so auroras are normally seen only in the thermosphere and lower exosphere. It contains the ozone layer, which is the part of Earth's atmosphere that contains relatively high concentrations of that gas. The atmospheric pressure at the top of the stratosphere is roughly 1/1000 the pressure at sea level.
