About this deal

framework shows that movements are more powerful when they begin to affect the vision and perspective of those who do not necessarily associate themselves with those movements.

No part of the United States was more resistant to the civil rights movement and its pursuit of racial equality than Mississippi.

In the TEXT (which can be previewed right here on Goodreads), this is delineated by using different fonts. This review is a mess but hey, the academic year is over and I have no interest in writing coherently anymore. And it would be fine, if you were in person, hearing it and experiencing it for the first time, perhaps, or maybe even several times, if you had been a longtime follower of her work and familiar with her. Reflecting on the importance of black feminism, intersectionality and prison abolitionism for today’s struggles, Davis discusses the legacies of previous liberation struggles, from the Black Freedom Movement to the South African anti-Apartheid movement.

A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. I am dying to read anything she published post-November 2016, after the election of a POTUS that made Bush look like Jane Fonda. I know VERY little about them beyond basic info one would see on the news, but after listening to Davis relate them to the movements here, it's easy to see how it's all the same fight. That is not a criticism, but it simply means that there is a limit to how much depth any speech can go into as compared to a book. This wide-ranging and brilliant set of essays includes a trenchant analysis of police violence against people of color, of the systematic incarceration of black people in America, the grounds of Palestinian solidarity for the Left, the affirmation of transgender inclusion, and the necessity of opposing the G4S corporation and its high-profit empire dedicated to the institutionalization of racism in the name of security. For Davis, it is through the feminist tradition that we can all make these connections, and as such, build stronger solidarity movements. I don't know if this is simply her READING tone, or how she normally speaks, because as I have mentioned, I was not very familiar with her.

Reflecting on the importance of black feminism, intersectionality and prison abolitionism for today's struggles, Davis discusses the legacies of previous liberation struggles, from the Black Freedom Movement to the South African anti-Apartheid movement. It's great to speak of problems but it seems like it's all very theoretical and emotional, rather than actual ideas on how to change systematic issues. Davis speak in university and the weight of her presence, the fact that she's struggled against the government and is here. So there is this connection between the US military and the Israeli military … the militarisation of the police in the US, or police forces all over the country has been accomplished in part with the aid of Israeli government. Davis leaves us with much to think over after reading Freedom Is A Constant Struggle, particularly the question: what does equality look like?I haven't read any other books by Angela Davis, but this has inspired me to read and learn more about her world view.
