I was a primary school teacher (specialising in Early Years and Special Education) before becoming an author and I draw heavily on the experiences and knowledge gained during that time when writing my stories. Indeed many stories typically have an educational slant and are great resources for teaching and learning. Simon Taylor is a watercolour artist from the same town as Claire. After reading her stories he decided to move into illustration. They work closely together to bring the stories to life. Claire and Simon love visiting schools to talk about their work and do educational activities with the children. This slim little book follows Mother Earth as she shares her worries with the moon about the negative environmental impact that people are having on the planet. Turning to the Sun, Mother Earth and the Moon are cheered by the Sun’s belief that there is capacity for the environmental damage to be reduced and reversed before it is too late. In particular, the efforts and decisions made by knowledgeable young people are highlighted as key to improving the environmental fortunes of the planet. I wrote many plays, songs, poems and stories for my pupils and the school. But, it wasn't until a school's inspector read some of my work and encouraged me to publish them, that I even considered becoming an author.Earth Day Cloze Activity Sheet - This resource is a great way to help children better develop their vocabulary. The themes explored in the book – habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, land use and poverty – could not be more current, nor the idea that young people may become passionate advocators for environmental issues

In the classroom, the ideas and issues raised in the book would provide a primary classroom teacher with a wide range of teaching and learning opportunities, either as starting points for discussion or to support deeper investigation and research which could then provide material to be used across a wide range of curriculum areas. Mother Earth Day is an annual international day to celebrate our amazing Earth, and share the message of the importance of reducing climate change and protecting our Earth from human destruction. As part of our Wonder Days theme week, I have planned a range of activities, with videos, photos and PowerPoints to help give you ideas.She needs to put here trust in children as they are learning more about the situation and how they can help. Mother Earth shares her worries for the future, but is reassured by Moon and Sun that ‘she might not escape unscathed but she can still be saved’.
