About this deal

One 8 ounce bottle of G2 Fluid with spout top. Use to refill the 2 ounce and / or 4 ounce mist spray bottle. 1,000+ mist sprays in this 8 ounce bottle. On first visual inspection, the record looked significantly better. However, some of the stubborn surface grease/finger marks were still present. The sound of the record improved significantly, but the stubborn stain still remained in part. Granted, this was a particularly stubborn record, but it seems a little spot cleaning is required here to remove the final surface grime. Type of Record Cleaner: Record Cleaning Machine | Pros: Improves record cleaning results and makes light work of batch cleaning | Cons: The vent position on the smaller VC-E could’ve been better placed

At Sound Matters, we use the compact Pro-Ject VC-E vacuum record cleaning machine in combination with GrooveWasher record cleaning fluids with great results. Aside from the core record cleaning fluid, their complete record cleaning kit—featuring a cleaning pad with a solid walnut handle—makes light work of cleaning vinyl records by hand. Borrowing a concept from the computer accessories industry, numerous companies have released gel-based vinyl record cleaning kits. These microscopic bubbles implode with such force that contaminants adhering to surfaces are dislodged. Disco-Antistat Ultraclean Concentrate, works deep into the groove and cleans your records gently and thoroughly even from stubborn dirt. It’s nice to see GrooveWasher’s continued commitment to developing new tools that complement their cleaning fluids and we can’t wait to test the new G-Sonic ultrasonic cleaning surfactant (watch this space).

Notes:Pro-quality record cleaning system from Dutch vinyl specialists Tonar. Ultrasonic cleaning aims to remove dust and dirt without damaging the grooves. Highly effective, gentle care for 7-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch records.Water Filter - A detachable water filter in the water tank gives an option to reuse the cleaning water. The filter is washable, which makes for easy maintenance.

Super wetting agent: A specialty chemical that reduces the G2 Fluid's surface tension to reach the bottom of the groove. When you spray G2 Fluid on a record you can see it spread down the grooves. The microfiber cleaning pads should be cleaned regularly and occasionally replaced for best results. The downside of cloths for cleaning vinyl records is, of course, that a dirty cloth or pad could spread dirt and dust to the next record you clean. To ensure this isn’t the case, regularly remove the pad and clean it by applying dish soap and distilled water. Massage the pad and thoroughly rinse it, followed by a squeeze to remove moisture. Allow it to air-dry overnight before using. It’s worth investing in a few copies of the removable velcro pads so that you can rotate and clean them regularly. The Bottom Line Rotate the pad to gently dry and groom the surface. If visual inspection shows a problem area, spray it again with the G2 fluid, wait a few seconds, and use the pad to gently scrub the area, but only in the direction of the grooves. Seriously dirty records may require 2 or 3 cleanings. As the saying goes, there’s more than one way to shine a penny. That said, I’ve been using GrooveWasher products on my records for over five years now, and I find they work exceptionally both manually by hand and in conjunction with a record cleaning machine. When buying a record cleaner for the first time, we recommend buying a small quantity before committing to it across your entire collection. G3 Fluid requires a rinsing step. Either use GrooveWasher's GSR Super Rinse Fluid, or distilled water. During the cleaning cycle, you could clearly see how differently the water behaved on the record surface with the addition of just a small drop of G-Sonic. Instead of moving over the record surface in patches, the water now consistently and evenly spread across the entire surface and was clearly entering the groove with ease.

Old records often come dirty, with years of old, oily fingerprints, dust, and other foreign debris (free of charge, naturally). Removing this dirt from the record grooves can take multiple cleanings, and GrooveWasher are careful to make this clear in their instructions: Notes:This 15 ml (approx 1/2 oz) bottle of SC1 Fluid is formulated for use with the GrooveWasher SC1 Stylus Brush. It is also effective with other stylus brush styles. The G2 record cleaning fluid is formulated to clean vinyl records with outstanding activity in removing sound degrading microdust, fingerprint oils, manufacturing compounds and mildew, without residue or any harm to the record’s surface. This refill is one of the essential parts of the GroveWasher product that simply works great. Gently cleans the record surface lifting out all the accumulated dirt and grime with ease." Richard VillanovaBeing UK-based, I’ve tried plenty of the manual cleaning options available this side of the pond (namely, Clear Groove and Vinyl Revival), but until now, I’ve been unable to test any US equivalents directly. I would like to thank the folks at GrooveWasher for changing all that by kindly sending me their starter kit in the mail. GrooveWasher Record Cleaning Booklet. Featured in this book are some clear instructions on how best to use the cleaning kit – a basic (but essential) detail that is surprisingly absent from competitor products I’ve sampled. The HumminGuru is a well-designed machine when you consider the price point. Does it perform as well as competitor machines costing thousands of dollars? Perhaps, in reality, this is an unfair comparison.
