Someone called Buster Jones gets detention but it gets longer and longer because he does silly things such as climbing out the window to escape the detention and then drawing rude graffiti of the teachers. Tom Gates: Top of the Class (Nearly) is the 9th Tom Gates book and follows Tom as he runs for the school council and TRIES to be top of the class. As per usual things don’t quite go according to plan… If only Tom could follow his own TOP tips for being Top of the Class! 1. Stay awake in lessons (it helps.) 2. Don’t draw HILARIOUS pictures of your teachers. 3. AVOID the class bully to stay out of trouble. 4. Don’t let Mum and Dad write ANYTHING in your school planner. . My favourite part was when a bully called Buster Jones drew on the teachers pictures and made them look goofy (one was a pirate). My favourite character is Buster because he is always up to mischief or in trouble. So, in this story Tom tried to be a school council and id a very cool design to make people vote for him. He said ,"Monday will be Funday, Tuesday will be you chose day (wear what you want), Wednesday is pen day (doodles and drawings), Thursday is furs day (when you bring in your animals) and Friday will be surprise day (such as extra pudding or much more bigger portions to eat at lunch). And guess what Tom got voted as school council and achieved top marks in his test.It was quite late by the time we got home and there was music out from our house. FuMom and Dad were RIOUS. The author ( Liz Pichon)thinks of things - everybody could laugh at.Top Of The Class (Nearly) is the ninth Tom Gates book and is a delightful read for younger children. I have never read a Tom Gates book before, but I dived headfirst into book 9, incredibly impressed by the fantastic layout of this book. It’s filled with tons of different fonts and different font sizes, there’s drawings of the characters in various situations and it feels like it’s interactive (even though it isn’t). It’s fully immersive and that’s incredible.
